REGULAR MEETING OF THE
LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
4:00 pm
9 January 2023
The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, January 9,
2023. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park.
The meeting was called to order by Park Board Vice-President Matt Metzger. Board members
present were Maurie Denney and Dave Mecklenburg. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman,
Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present.
Parks staff members present were Mike Perry, Kurt Wolf, Chad Aldridge, Neil Dale, Samantha
Haville and Ashley Wulff.
Election of Officers:
• Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Denney and unanimously carried,
Matt Metzger was elected President.
• Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Metzger and unanimously carried, David
Mecklenburg was elected Vice-President.
• Upon motion by Mr. Metzger, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg and unanimously carried,
Maurie Denney was elected Secretary.
• Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg and unanimously carried,
Jenny Spencer was elected Recording Secretary.
Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, minutes
of the December 12, 2022 Parks Board meeting were approved.
Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, General
Fund Claims in the amount of $19,675.65, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of
$1,011.52 and Bond Fund claims in the amount of $463,709.38 for a total of $484,396.55 were
approved.
Superintendent’s Report:
• Superintendent Laufman provided an update on the Columbian Park restroom project.
Warranty work is being completed. Including a door sweep issue and reprogramming a
faucet. Dixon Construction is contracted to complete the sidewalks. The start of work
will be dependent on the weather.
• The tuck-pointing project at McAllister is underway. Ms. Laufman requested Chad
Aldridge provide a more detailed report. The mortar is being removed followed by
power-washing. Good progress is being made.
• Ms. Laufman also shared that the design planning for the McCaw Park project, including
the dog park, is going well. The project will be out for bid next month.

• McAllister Director Chad Aldridge provided updates on the many activities at McAllister
Recreation Center. Donuts with Santa this year was one of the largest ever. Eighty-eight
families attended bringing 270 people overall. The Winter Market was also well
attended. Plans are to have markets once per month until the Farmer’s Market begins for
the season. The Christmas Drop and Shop had 23 attendees. Winter Break camp had
around 30 children. Winter basketball is full, with games starting January 18. A
father/daughter dance is scheduled for February 11, with two sessions; 2pm-4pm and
6pm-8pm. Attendance will be limited to 55 pairs per session. A successful partnership
with the Civic Theatres has been established to accommodate their space challenges.
• Marketing Manager Samantha Haville shared with the Board plans to begin some updates
to Rush Pavilion including the kitchen and floors in the bathrooms. The Fun Guide
should be completed for the Board’s review at the February meeting. The Zoo Teen
program is ready to go live and applications are being accepted. Ms. Haville also
provided an update on the increases on Social Media platforms; including over 100%
increase in Tik-Tok followers.
• Director of Operations Jon Miner shared that the seasonal job postings will be up this
week with social media coverage and a push to contact last season’s employees. One
lifeguard class has been scheduled with the potential for a second class if necessary. Mr.
Miner will be working with Cornerstone to engage in the 5-Year Master Plan.
Conversations will be held with employees, the Board, existing user groups and the
public to contribute to the year-long process to complete the master plan.

There being no further business to come before the Board, on motion of Mr. Denney, seconded
by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 4:23 pm.
