REGULAR MEETING OF THE
LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
4:00 pm
18 September 2023
The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm,
September 18, 2023. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park.
The meeting was called to order by Park Board President Matt Metzger. Board members present
were Dave Mecklenburg and Siany Molina. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks
Director of Operations Jon Miner and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present. Parks
staff members present were Mike Perry, Kurt Wolf, Chad Aldridge, Dean Landes, Samantha
Haville and Caitlin Laffery.
Upon motion by Ms. Molina, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg and unanimously carried, minutes
of the August 28, 2023, Parks Board meeting were approved.
Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Ms. Molina, and unanimously carried, General
Fund Claims in the amount of $30,308.54, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of
$34,624.75 for a total of $64,933.29 were approved.
Superintendent’s Report:
Marketing Manager Haville provided an update on coming events. Latinofest is this
weekend. Then on October 13th, Monsters, Inc. will be shown at Loeb Stadium for
Movie Night. Doors open at 5pm, movie begins at 6pm. Ms. Haville also shared the
current numbers for social media with increases on all platforms. In addition, Ms.
Haville shared that Ashley Wulff, Marketing and Events Coordinator is leaving her
position to return to her home state.
Facilities and Grounds Director, Mike Perry introduced Dean Landes as the incoming
Assistant Director. Mr. Landes provided a brief biography and work prior to his position
at the Parks Department.
Superintendent Laufman began the project updates with McCaw Park. The trusses are up
on the restroom building. The fencing around the dog park is sunken eighteen inches in
order to prevent dogs from digging under the fence.
Further updates include Director of Operations Miner sharing Armstrong Park upgrades.
Those include laser grading and installing sod on the baseball fields. There is new
fencing up at the fields. Lafayette Youth Baseball received a donation for concrete
batting cages. In addition, the new playground is ready for the pour-in-place surface.
At Munger Park, the missing pieces for the playground have arrived, it is complete and
ready for landscaping. The team is laying out Arlington plan. The playground will be
torn out this week.
Mr. Miner also shared the final Aquatics Report. The average daily attendance at
Tropicanoe Cove was 809. The concessions revenue exceeded $195,000, with pretzels
being the number one seller. In addition, there were 20 private rentals.

Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 4:16 pm.
