City of Lafayette Traffic Commission Meeting Minutes

Common Council Chamber
Members Present: Larry Larrabee, Leon Dickson, Glenn Allen, Ron Campbell, Cindy Murray, Fred
Koning, Jenny Miller, Mike Strauch and Max Smith
Mr. Strauch called the meeting to order.
Mr. Campbell moved to approve the minutes of the April 3, 2012 meeting, Mr. Larrabee seconded. The
motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
Mr. Strauch questioned if any action was taken regarding a speed hump at 22nd Street by Jefferson High
School. Mrs. Miller responded because the school opposed a speed hump and they prefer a guard rail.
However due to the expense no action has been taken at this time.
New Business:
Request for Speed Hump at Bennett Road
Mrs. Miller City Engineer presented a petition and request for speed hump recently received for Bennett
Road, the study was performed October 18th to 25th with the average speed registering 22 mph both
locations and all directions. Mrs. Miller stated according to policy this area does not qualify for speed
humps, she would therefore not recommend speed humps at this location. Discussion ensued; several
residents of the Bennett Road area spoke with concerns and questioned the study (several portions of the
audio are not available due to residents not coming to the podium.) Sgt. Smith offered to sit in the
driveway of one of the Bennett Road residents to give them a better idea of actual speeds. Jack Cline,
2349 Bennett Rd agreed to meet with Sgt. Smith. Mr. Campbell moved to accept the motion not to allow
a speed hump on Bennett Road, Mr. Dickson seconded. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
Request for Speed Hump on Cason Street.
Mrs. Miller presented a speed study for Cason Street noting the criteria was not met for a speed hump.
Resident David Berky, 2800 Cason Street spoke regarding several traffic concerns in the Cason Street
area. Discussion ensued. No action will be taken on Cason Street at this time.
Mr. Campbell moved to accept the calendar of meetings for 2013, Mr. Koning seconded. The motion
passed by unanimous voice vote.
Mr. Campbell moved to adjourn, Mr. Dickson seconded. Meeting adjourned.
