Councilmembers present: Tracy Furutani, Deputy Mayor; Larry Goldman, Vice Chair; Paula Goode, Semra Riddle, Josh Rosenau Councilmembers absent: Matt Muilenburg, Ellyn Saunders Staff present: Tom French, Mayor; Lindsey Vaughn, Finance Director; Mike Harden, Police Chief; Diego Zannella, Police Commander; Ross Adams, Police Commander; Matt McLean, City Clerk Others present: Erika Olson, Third Place Commons board member, Moderator 105 visitors CALL TO ORDER & OPENING REMARKS Mayor French called the special City Council meeting of May 20, 2026, to order at 7:04 p.m. and gave brief opening remarks. INTRODUCTIONS Each Councilmember introduced themselves, shared their vision for the City, and where they represent the City on regional bodies. COMMUNITY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS Ms. Olson moderated a question-and-answer period. The following people asked questions: Ross Baarslag-Benson: Concerned about tree canopy coverage. Would Council support a creative solution like asking Sound Transit to give the City money to support hiring two full-time arborists? Vice Chair Goldman responded Ed Colman: What is the process for involving immediate neighbors regarding street changes – such as transitioning Perkins Way NE into a one-way road? Mayor French and Cmbr. Rosenau responded. Horizon View Park - what are we going to do about motorized bikes and scooters on park pathways? Mayor French and Cmbr. Goode responded. Hina: What are some of the financial challenges the City is currently facing and what is in the works to generate revenue? Deputy Mayor Furutani, Vice Chair Goldman, Cmbrs. Riddle and Rosenau, and Mayor French responded. Resident: Can LFP ask for the Sound Transit BRT project to be scrapped? Cmbr. Goode and Mayor French responded. Anne Udaloy: What is the City’s emergency management plan, particularly for an emergency that occurs outside of working hours which means staff is not at City Hall. Mayor French, Deputy Mayor Furutani and Cmbr. Riddle responded. Jolene: Asking for a moratorium on Reasonable Use Exceptions and evaluating the associated costs. Mayor French and Cmbr. Rosenau responded. Maddy Larson: What evidence are you using to prioritize projects based on the current financial standing and how are we evaluating unintended consequences? Deputy Mayor Furutani; Cmbrs. Goode, Riddle and Rosenau responded. CLOSING REMARKS Ms. Olson provided brief closing remarks.
