DISCUSSION FOR CHANGE TO MEETING TIME OF BOARD MEETINGS AND
COMMITTEE MEETINGS
At the May 14, 2007 Committee of the Whole meeting, Mayor Tolomei asked if there was any
interest in starting the Board of Trustees and Committee meetings at 7:00 and if the Board and
Committee meetings should be held on the same night. He said he would like to continue the
discussion since one Board member was absent that night and the Village Clerk needed to give
her opinion.
He polled the Board on the 7:00 p.m. meeting time change. Trustees Branding, McAvoy,
Poynton, and Johnson said they were flexible. Trustee Taylor said it creates some problems for
him. Trustee Callahan said it would create a problem for him unless they did make the change to
two meetings per month. Mayor Tolomei said Village Clerk Palmblad told him 7:00 would not
work for her.
A memorandum on proposals to hold the Committee meeting following the Board meeting had
been prepared and was distributed to the Trustees. Trustee McAvoy said he felt that meeting only
two times per month cut the amount of time for public comment and could result in very lengthy
meetings on occasion. He was concerned about rushing through important reviews due to time
constraints and did not want to short-change the public. Trustee Taylor agreed with Trustee
McAvoy’s comments and emphasized that some Committee meetings have run very late. Trustee
Poynton also agreed. Trustee Callahan said he would like staff polled individually to get their
opinions. Trustee Johnson said if a meeting ran too late, it could be adjourned and continued
until the following Monday. Mayor Tolomei said that could create the perception that the Village
of Lake Zurich has a cumbersome process if residents and project teams are required to come for
another meeting.
