A. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Scott Garrison at 7 PM
B. ROLL CALL-Present were Chairman Garrison, Members Tony Harper, Mary Kozub, Toni Rey,
Jim Mihelic and Village Liaison Shawn Walkington.
C. PUBLIC COMMENT- Sherry Gullo of 585 Cypress Bridge Road talked about a Cottonwood
tree in the parkway that some neighbors had called the village asking for it to be removed because
of the seeds it drops. Sherry would like the Commission to know that she would not want to see
the tree removed.
William Elliott of 765 Old Mill Grove Road asked about how the Agenda was formatted and its
vagueness. Chairmen Garrison addressed Mr. Elliott’s questions.
D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – Commissioner Harper motioned to approve the September 7, 2010
meeting minutes. Commission Rey seconded. Voice vote, AYES have it. MOTION CARRIED.
E. OLD BUSINESS – Wal-mart plan review- Chairmen Garrison talked to Director of Building and
Zoning Dan Peterson. Director Peterson said it was part of a PUD agreement that is why they
approved the plan as is. Director Peterson also stated that the Land Development Code is currently
being redone and if we would like to see any changes to let him know.
F. ARBOR DAY – Chairmen Garrison Member Mihelic and Park and Rec Chairmen Judi Thode
met a couple weeks ago to discuss Arbor day activities. Park and Rec Chairmen Thode talked to
Park and Rec director Mike Perkins. Director Perkins said they would not be able to spend any
more money on activities. Chairmen Thode said if we would like to see any changes to what is
advertised in the Park and Rec brochure to contact Bonnie Matheson. Tree Commission Chairmen
Garrison asked Park and Rec Chairman Thode if members of Park and Rec Board would
volunteer to help on Arbor Day. She said she would ask at their next meeting. Chairmen Garrison
would like to see tree pruning demonstration added to the event and put in the brochure as well.
Chairmen Thode has contacted Flint Creek about attending. Giving away tree saplings was also
discussed, but that would cost more money. Games for children were also an activity that could be
added. Chairmen Thode also recommended that we have a theme for the day. Committee agreed
on Trees Our Treasure as the theme. Chairmen Garrison would like to see Park cleanup done from
9 to 10:30 then tree planting and activities from 10:45 to Noon and then lunch. Member Harper
asked about advertising with schools. Chairmen Thode said she had little response from schools in
the past. Committee will also put together display of Emerald Ash borer. Commissioner Rey will
put together a letter to send to other boards and commissions asking for volunteers. Commissioner
Harper will contact schools to see what sort of involvement they might have.
G. EMERALD ASH BORER PLAN- Chairmen Garrison said that there is still no treatment that is
guaranteed. Right now the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture is only recommending ash reduction to

We will also put together number of parkway trees in the Village of Lake Zurich are Ash trees.
Chairmen Garrison will bring in sample action plan for the next meeting.
H. TREE PROTECTION- Chairmen Garrison spoke to Building Director Pederson and expressed his
displeasure in tree preservation on construction sites. There is discussion of getting departments
together to educate everyone on the Tree Preservation Ordinance.
I. ADJOURNMENT – MOTION was made by Commissioner Kozub, seconded by Commissioner
Harper, to adjourn the meeting. Voice vote, AYES have it. MOTION CARRIED
