BOROUGH OF LANSDALE PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES – FEBRUARY 7, 2024 MEMBERS PRESENT Rachael Bollens, Chairperson Mary Fuller Courtney Meehan MEMBERS NOT PRESENT BJ Breish PUBLIC PRESENT Bill Henning Jason Wetzler Rob Gladfelter APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve December 6, 2023, minutes by Councilwoman Fuller, seconded by Councilwoman Bollens. Motion passes 2-0. DCNR C2P2 GRANT In the next DCNR Community Conservation Program Partner (C2P2) grant round, Courtney plans to seek funding for a W. 5th Street Park playground improvement project. The proposal will include new playground equipment, a shade structure, security cameras, benches, trees, ADA parking, and possible basketball court repairs. This is a 50/50 match grant. Courtney will investigate and apply for matching fund sources. Motion to apply for the DCNR C2P2 grant for W. 5th Street Park Playground Improvements by Councilwoman Fuller, seconded by Councilwoman Bollens. Motion passes 2-0. POOL FEASIBILITY STUDY UPDATE The Pool Feasibility Study Steering Committee met December 21. The next meeting is Thursday, February 8. The consultant will be presenting their next round of conceptual plans for facility improvement recommendations. “KIDS TO PARKS DAY” PROCLAMATION – MAY 18, 2024 The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting Mayor Herbert to proclaim Saturday, May 18 as “Kids to Parks Day” in Lansdale Borough. The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting an event at White’s Road Park to celebrate. The day’s activities will kick off with a Bike Rodeo (in partnership with the Police Department) at 9am- 11am. The other park activities will be held from 10am-1pm. Courtney plans to proceed with the purchase this month. o Meadow at Willow Street Park – plans to select a small area to create a “test” meadow site at Willow Street Park. o Restroom updates – Memorial Park, W. 5th Street Park, White’s Road Park. Include hand dryers, motion sensor light switches. o Pool facility updates – painting at both facilities. Upgraded LED lighting at Fourth Street. Working on upgraded LED lighting in locker rooms at WRP. Installing water bottle refill stations. OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS Motion to reallocate 2024 capital funds designated for paving for a Comprehensive Park, Recreation, and Open Space Plan. Motion to approve by Councilwoman Fuller, seconded by Councilwoman Bollens. Motion passes 2-0. PUBLIC COMMENT Rob Gladfelter: requested clarification on decision to apply for C2P2 grant for W. 5th Street Park instead of Comprehensive Plan. Jason Wetzler: Would like to see updates and new features added to the pool facilities. Bill Henning: Discover Lansdale moving forward with Beerfest at W. 5th Street Park in June.
