BOROUGH OF LANSDALE PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES – MARCH 6, 2024 MEMBERS PRESENT Rachael Bollens, Chairperson BJ Breish Lisa Pearsall, Recreation Specialist (Borough Representative) MEMBERS NOT PRESENT Mary Fuller Courtney Meehan, Director of Parks and Recreation PUBLIC PRESENT Xaviar Lewis Betsy Eppers Alex Sickler ACTION ITEMS: APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve February 7, 2024, minutes by Councilman Breish, seconded by Councilwoman Bollens. Motion passes 2-0. RESOLUTION FOR DCNR C2P2 GRANT APPLICATION – W. 5TH STREET PARK PLAYGROUND REHABILITATION PROJECT The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting a motion to proceed with the DCNR C2P2 Grant application for the W. 5th Street Park Playground Rehabilitation Project. The application includes the following upgrades and improvements: new playground equipment, shade, seating, tree planting, basketball court resurfacing, ADA parking, and security cameras. RVE is calculating the total estimated cost of the project. There is a 50% required match. RVE is submitting the application on behalf of the Borough. Motion to proceed with the grant application by Councilman Breish, seconded by Councilwoman Bollens. Public Comment Alex Sickler: inquired about types of trees that will be planted in the park. RESOLUTION FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) APPLICATION – W. 5TH STREET PARK PLAYGROUND REHABILITATION PROJECT The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting a motion to proceed with the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for the W. 5th Street Park Playground Rehabilitation Project. RVE is calculating the total estimated cost of the project. This is no match grant, but engineering costs are not covered by grant funds. RVE is submitting the application on behalf of the Borough. Motion to proceed with the grant application by Councilman Breish, seconded by Councilwoman Bollens. Public Comment - NONE DEPARTMENT REQUESTS • Well Crafted Beer Garden at White’s Road Park, Saturdays, April 20-May 11. Fall dates TBD. Motion to approve park use by Councilman Breish, seconded by Councilwoman Bollens. o Public Comment - NONE  • North Penn Valley Girls Softball Association (NPVGSA) – requesting to host 12 tournaments at Schweiker Park (10 held in 2023): Tabled for next month. o Public Comment – NONE OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS Councilman Breish noted an increase in vandalism in the park systems. He also discussed inclusive options for interpretive signs throughout the parks. PUBLIC COMMENT None. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: • Pool Study Update and Pool Survey o A community meeting was held on Tuesday, February 27, at Borough Hall. o Two surveys: one for White’s Road Pool and one for Fourth Street Pool. The deadline to complete the surveys is Friday, March 8. • W. 5th Street Park: Community survey now available. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, March 15. Date for community meeting at Borough Hall TBA. • March Events/Programs o Egg Hunt: Saturday, March 23, White’s Road Park o Spring Break Camp: March 25-29, Parks and Rec Building o Washington, DC Trip: March 25, SOLD OUT • Maintenance Activities o LED lighting upgrades to White’s Road Pool locker rooms o Installation of water bottle refill stations at pools o New freestanding playground piece installed at Fourth Street Park MEETING ADJOURNED AT 8:30 PM Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 3, at 7:30 pm.
