BOROUGH OF LANSDALE PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES – MAY 1, 2024 MEMBERS PRESENT Rachael Bollens, Chairperson BJ Breish Mary Fuller Courtney Meehan, Director of Parks and Recreation MEMBERS NOT PRESENT PUBLIC PRESENT ACTION ITEMS: APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve April 4, 2024, minutes by Councilwoman Fuller, seconded by Councilman Breish. Motion passes 3-0. DEPARTMENT REQUESTS • Motion to approve the pool snack stand lease agreement with Little’s Water Ice and Ice Cream for the 2024 pool season. Motion by Councilwoman Fuller, seconded by Councilman Breish. Motion passes 3-0. o Public Comment – None • Old Business None. • New Business o Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy shared that the Department was selected for the TreeVitalize grant. Fifty trees will be planted in White’s Road Park this fall at no cost to the Borough. o The Partnership TMA is hosting a dedication and demonstration of the new bike repair station at Stony Creek Park on Thursday, May 2, at 6pm. • Public Comment None. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: • Maintenance Report o The Parks and Recreation Department is using GIS to log daily maintenance activities. The Department is also using GIS for inventorying park assets. The next goal is starting a tree inventory to log all newly planted trees, as well as keep records for trees the Department is actively maintaining/monitoring (treating for disease, major pruning, etc.). o Using GIS, the Department is analyzing the current locations for all trash and recycling cans throughout the park system. The current cans are rusting and collect rainwater. Courtney will be budgeting for new trash/recycling combo cans over the next 3-5 years, prioritizing active parks and the pools. The committee discussed ideas for assistance with trash removal, including seasonal help and/or community service volunteers. o Other Parks Crew projects:  Installed a new pull-up bar at White’s Road Park.  Installed concrete pad for the new Rotary kiosk at White’s Road Park.  Ongoing pool facility updates and improvements in preparation for the season. • White’s Road Pool Update The crew is working hard to get the pools ready for summer. The baby pool is being repaired and repainted. Councilwoman Fuller recommended the Borough consider prioritizing the pool project for 2025. • White’s Road Park Restroom Facility Update Courtney is ordering the restroom facility this month. Once ordered, the Borough can close out the Montco2040 grant. The building will be delivered and installed once the utilities are installed, and the site is ready. This is pending LSA grant approval, but likely to start in early 2025. The total facility cost will be approximately $122,000. The Montco2040 grant is for $90,000. • RFP for Comprehensive Park, Recreation, and Open Space Plan Courtney is preparing a draft RFP for the Department’s Comprehensive Park, Recreation, and Open Space Plan. Once finalized, she will send it out to consultants this month. • Recreation Report: May Events/Programs o May 10 – Bat Release @ White’s Road Park. The Department is once again partnering with the EAC for the bat release program. o May 18 – Kids to Parks Day @ White’s Road Park. The event starts at 9am with the bike rodeo. The day will include games, activities, as well as an opportunity to meet specialty program providers for upcoming programs and camps happening this spring and summer. o May 25 – EAC Nature Walk in the Park at White’s Road Park. • Montgomery County Senior Games: May 6-10, 2024 The Borough will be hosting the Montgomery County Senior Games on Thursday, May 9, at Memorial Park. The tennis courts will be used for men’s doubles and women’s doubles tennis from 8am-11am. MEETING ADJOURNED AT 8:30 PM Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, at 7:30 pm. Council Chambers.
