CALLTOORDER/ROLLCALL Becki Burman called the meeting to order at 6:23 p.m. Members Present: Becki Burman Chair Ron Mavrich Vice-Chair David Milam Sandy Novick Secretary Members Absent: Jean Allais Health Officer Staff Present: Jerry Hankin Code Administration Supervisor Mary Murrieta Environmental Health Specialist Kathy Wickersham Administrative Assistant Peter Wysocki Community Development Director City Council Liaison: Dee Mickelson 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Request that item 5A to be removed from the agenda. MOTION BY NOVICK, second by Mavrich to approve the agenda with the removal of item 5A. Aye:4 Nay: 0 Motion carried. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - REVIEW OF APRIL 22, 2010 MINUTES MOTION BY MAVRICH, second by Milam to approve the Thursday, April 22, 2010, Board of Health Meeting Minutes. Aye:4 Nay: 0 Motion carried. 4. OLD BUSINESS No items Laramie Board of Health 17June2010 Page 1 of 3 5. NEW BUSINESS 5-B. - Mario Seminara, Rocky Mountain Region Retail Food Safety Specialist a. Self-evaluation of the 9 standards of the Retail Food Safety b. Determine which of the 9 standards the City of Laramie meets and which need work c. FDA recommends a self-evaluation every 5 years to review all 9 standards d. FDA has a database for tracking inspections and Mario is willing to provide a copy to the City of Laramie e. He will review the Draft of Policy and Procedures and provide his comments regarding them in August f. Offered a one day workshop for the new inspector g. Will provide each board member a book of the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Programs Standards and the Summary of Changes in the FDA Food Code Annexes 2009 h. Mario recommended a community food safety meeting 1. A press release to introduce Mary as the new inspector to the food service establishments and invite them to a training meeting in September 2. Meeting in September 2010 with all food service establishments (grocery stores, child care facilities with kitchens, restaurants, school district and UW food services) to review guidelines, update food handling requirements and other training 5-C. Update on Inspector's Training and Community Contact a. Has started the online training module for inspectors b. Combines education and support as part of her health inspections c. Will start the self-assessment and report results back to Board d. Mary and Mario will review the first Standard for gaps and compliance 6. DISCUSSION 6-A. Current Food Code a. The State of Wyoming currently uses the 2005 Code and has not yet adopted the 2009 Code. Adoption of the Food Code the City uses must be approved by the City Council. b. Novick recommended that the City be only as restrictive as the State of Wyoming (Code 2005) and not more restridive. c. Maverick likes the idea of adopting the 2009 Code and let the State know we will put it into effect in 12 months. d. Hankin recommended we stay with the same Code (2005) as the State. e. The Policy and Procedures references Wyoming's current Code and does not specify the Code year. 7. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS Novick made a recommendation that a final draft of the Policy and Procedures be attached to the July agenda and that they be discussed and adopted at the July meeting.
