Requests from person with disabilities must be made to the Community Development Department 48 hours in advance of the meeting. 1. CALLTOORDER/ROLLCALL Meeting convened at 6:20 PM. Members Present: Jean Allais Health Officer Becki Burman Dental Officer David Milam Vice-Chairman Beth Young Members Absent: Sandy Novick Chairman There was a quorum present at all times. Staff Present: Mary Murrieta Environmental Health Specialist Kathy Wickersham Administrative Assistant City Council Liaison: Lee Kempert (present) 2. APPROV AL OF AGENDA AND MINUTES 2-A. Agenda for October 20, 201 1 MOTION BY ALLAIS, second by Young to approve the Agenda as written. Aye:4 Nay: 0 Motion carried. 2-B. Minutes from Thursday, September 8, 2011, Laramie Board of Health meeting. MOTION BY BURMAN, second by Allais to approve the Minutes from the September 8, 2011 meeting. Aye:4 Nay: 0 Motion carried. 3. DISCUSSION None 4. NEW BUSINESS None Laramie Board of Health October 20, 2011 Page 1 of 3 5. OLD BUSINESS 5-A. Review of Monthly Inspections - August 12, 2011- September 8, 201 1 and September 9, 2011- October 13, 201 1 Murrieta stated that she had not received any complaints on the local food establishments. Allais informed the Board that a local store was attaching security tags to candy bars. A customer informed her that the tags were being inserted into the packaging in a way that the tags were touching the candy. Once this problem was brought to the store owner's attention, the problem was corrected. Murrieta had a follow up inspection at Ramada Inn (pool and kitchen). A control plan was implemented. The owner of the establishment hired a kitchen manager to oversee the continental breakfast in the morning and the bar in the evening. The desk clerk at Americlnn is running the front counter, the breakfast bar as well as checking pool chemicals. Murrieta has been in contact with the Americlnn's manager and informed him of the low inspection ratings. A follow up inspection is planned for next week. 5-B. Body Art Rules and Regulations Murrieta noted that all changes suggested by the board were made, and asked the Members to review them. Kempert suggested that the City Attorney, Dave Clark review the Body Art Rules and Regulations and provide comments and changes. Murrieta suggested that the Body Art business owners/artists review the Rules and Regulations and provide written comments or be present at the January 2012 Board of Health meeting to share their comments or concerns. The Board Members agreed and welcome the public input of the local business owners. Staff will send a cover letter along with a copy of the Draft-Body Art Rules and Regulation to each local Body Art Establishment by October 31, 2011. Requesting they review the Rules and Regulation and provide written comments Prior to Januaiy 11, 2012 or attend the January 1 9'h Board meeting to share their comments. When the Rules and Regulations are complete, they will be presented to the City council at a work session. 5-C. FDA Standards - Conference Update September 26th-30'h, Murrieta attended a FDA conference in Dallas, Texas and completed FDA Standard #l-Self Assessment. The conference was a good opportunity for networking with other Wyoming jurisdictions as well as other professionals in similar positions from other states. Murrieta felt the conference provided valuable information. The Board requested an outline of Murrieta's Self-Assessment. The State is completing their training manual soon. Once it is available, Murrieta will review and edit it to suit Laramie, than turn in Laramie's Training Manual into FDA. Laramie Board of Health October 20, 2011 Page 2 of 3 Milam requested Murrieta to outline the Standards and a timeline for achieving them. The Environmental Health Specialist has four more inspections with another inspector before Standard #2 is complete. Neal Bloomenrader of Wyoming Department of Agriculture, Consumer Health Services and Murrieta will complete the joint inspections on or before November 1 51h. The Board thanked Murrieta for her diligent work on the Standards. 6. DATE OF NEXT REGULAR MEETING The Board discussed taking November and December off and having their next regular meeting on January 19, 2012. If needed, a special meeting could be arranged.
