HERITAGE TRAIL MEDALLION COMMITTEE MINUTES Wednesday, October 30, 2019 Council Assembly Room 2:00 PM 70 S. Clayton St, GA 30046 Call to Order Lisa Sherman called the meeting to order at 2:10 pm. PRESENT Committee Member Nancy Price Committee Member Elliott Brack Committee Member Mary Long Committee Member Gloria James Committee Member Theresa Bailey Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes 1. Approval of October 22, 2019 Regular Meeting Minutes Motion to approve the October 22, 2019 meeting minutes made by Committee Member Price, Seconded by Committee Member Long. Voting Yea: Committee Member Price, Committee Member Brack, Committee Member Long, Committee Member James, Committee Member Bailey. General Discussion 2. Discussion of Final Additions or Deletions from Potential Nominee List Lisa Sherman reminded the committee that they are recommending a list of potential nominees. City Council has final approval.  Lisa Sherman announced to the Committee that Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson has requested to be removed from the list of consideration. Motion to accept the list in the agenda packet to be the final list for consideration and no other names to be added at this time made by Committee Member James, Seconded by Committee Member Bailey. Voting Yea: Committee Member Price, Committee Member Brack, Committee Member Long, Committee Member James, Committee Member Bailey. The Committee Members gave the names of the ones they recommend to the Committee to be on the list given to City Council. Committee Member Price recommended Annette Williams & Hubert Tucker, Sr., Jess (J.J.) Baggett, William Tanner Family, Frances Brown & Laura Brown. Committee Member Long recommended Tim Summerour, Jr., Dora Gunter, and Dr. F.A. Sims, II. Committee Member James recommended Marion Allison Webb, Bill & Betty Atkinson, and Alma Peevy Frazier. Committee Member Bailey recommended William Reese, Sr., Robbie & Eron Moore, and Miller Neal. Committee Member Brack recommended Major William E. Simmons. Committee Member Bailey recommended William Reese, Sr. Motion to accept the names given by committee members for further discussion made by Committee Member Bailey, Seconded by Committee Member Brack. Voting Yea: Committee Member Price, Committee Member Brack, Committee Member Long, Committee Member James, Committee Member Bailey. 3. Vote on the Potential Nominee List Committee Member Price recommended that the William Tanner Family, Dr. F. A. Sims, II, and Miller Neal, and Churches be moved into the parking lot list for consideration at a later time. Motion to accept the eleven names remaining to be the ones recommended to City Council made by Committee Member Price, Seconded by Committee Member Long.  Voting Yea: Committee Member Price, Committee Member Brack, Committee Member Long, Committee Member James, Committee Member Bailey. 4. Discussion of Proposed Time Frame The Committee discussed in which order they recommend the medallions be created and installed on the Heritage Trail. 1. Bill & Betty Atkinson (Husband and Wife - one medallion) 2. Frances Brown and Laura Brown (Mother and Daughter - one medallion) 3. Alma Peevy Frazier 4. Jess (J.J.) Baggett 5. Tim Summerour, Jr. 6. Marion Allison Webb 7. Annette Williams Tucker and Hubert Tucker, Sr. (Husband and Wife - one medallion) 8. William Reese, Sr. 9. Dora P. Gunter 10. Robbie Susan Moore and Eron Moore (Husband and Wife - one medallion) 11. Major William E. Simmons Motion to recommend that the eleven medallions be installed in the order the Committee suggested over two years and for the installation to be completed by the end of 2021 made by Committee Member Price, Seconded by Committee Member Bailey. Voting Yea: Committee Member Price, Committee Member Brack, Committee Member Long, Committee Member James, Committee Member Bailey. 5. Discussion of Next Steps for Committee The Committee plans to meet again in April of 2021 to consider names for the next phase of medallions. Lisa Sherman asked the Committee members to join her at the November 20th City Council Work Session in the Council Chambers at 5 pm when the recommended list will be presented to Council. The Committee asked Committee Member Price to join Lisa Sherman in presenting the list to Council.
