5. Project Status Update – Mr. Mark LeBlanc, Project Manager for the Hooper-Renwick themed
Library/Museum
Part of his update was explaining the various phases of the construction process. Site
construction - construction documents (specifics and details) will be submitted to the
Gwinnett County Planning and Development office for approval. Target date for this phase is
September. The next phase is building construction - concept design to be submitted to the
Gwinnett County Planning and Development office for approval. Target date for this phase is
the end of 2022. The third and last phase is exhibit construction - concept design which will
include construction documents.
6. Project Status Update - Ms. Cammie Fulmer, IRPC
Ms. Fulmer stated that artifacts need to be finalized by September 15, 2022. The County will
continue to accept smaller artifacts such as clothing, jerseys, awards, and photos. As with all
artifacts the date of the object and background information is needed.
Some of the artifact items will be saved and placed into the exhibits at a later time.
They are considering having some flex space. Flex space could rotate as often as necessary,
monthly, bi-annually, or annually.
Ms. Fulmer introduced Brian Boggs who works with Gwinnett County as well. Brian is
working with Cammie on this project. He is an oral history expert and works with historic
preservation.
Ms. Fulmer updated that they are working with the consultants weekly and are hoping to
have some items finalized by the end of September or early October. HealyKohler and New
South are aiming at having a chapters presentation at the September meeting.
A sub-committee of the Hooper-Renwick Legacy Preservation Committee has been meeting
to review the exhibit content to identify concerns, consistency, and historical accuracy. The
members of the sub-committee are Chairwoman Bailey, Vice-Chair Moore, Committee
Member Neal, and Committee Member Dr. Maxey. Terri Gillett from New South is part of
these meetings along with Cammie.
HealyKohler is proposing an exhibit charrette to give the Committee an opportunity to
discuss the details in a more informal setting. This would allow them to gain more feedback
on concepts, have major takeaways from the exhibits, and goals of the exhibits.
Reminder that all of the documents shown in the meeting may not be shared with anyone
beyond the Committee.
Ms. Fulmer reported that she is moving forward with oral histories. She is currently
interviewing three (3) people for the "After Hooper-Renwick" exhibit space. Ms. Fulmer stated
that they are planning to record more oral histories on Friday, September 16, 2022.
She stated that more artifacts are needed for the era “before Hooper-Renwick” and “after
Hooper-Renwick” during that transitional period.
7. Comments - Mr. Chuck Warbington, City Manager
Mr. Warbington stated that the city has a great working relationship with Mark, Cammie, and
the County regarding this project. He further stated that The Intergovernmental Agreement
(IGA) which was agreed upon by the City and the County is being followed.
Mr. Warbington gave an update regarding the Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church. He
reported that the inside millwork items will be removed next week which is the week of
August 22nd. Mr. Warbington said that by the end of August early September the stained-
glass windows would be removed. He also reported that September/October is the time
frame for the demolition of the building.
