HOOPER-RENWICK LEGACY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MINUTES Tuesday, March 19, 2024 Third Floor GwMA Conference Room 6:00 PM 70 S. Clayton St, GA 30046 Call to Order Chairwoman Brown called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm after recognizing a quorum. 1. Opening Prayer Committee Member Brown led the opening prayer. 2. Oaths Given by Mayor David Still Mayor David Still gave the Oath of Office to each of the Committee Members. 3. Approval of Agenda Motion to accept the agenda made by Committee Member Maxey, Seconded by Committee Member Johnson. Voting Yea: Committee Member Bailey, Committee Member Brown, Committee Member Williams, Committee Member Dunnigan, Committee Member Glenn, Committee Member Johnson, Committee Member Lott, Committee Member Maxey, Committee Member Moore, Committee Member Neal, Committee Member Brown Taylor, Committee Member Summerour-Daniel 4. Quorum/Roll Call Paula Foil, Secretary took the Quorum/Roll Call of the Committee Members PRESENT Committee Member Theresa Bailey Committee Member Constance Brown Committee Member Deidra Williams Committee Member Pastor Ronald Dunnigan Committee Member Gary Glenn Committee Member Rory Johnson Committee Member Greg Lott Committee Member John Maxey Committee Member Joyce Moore Committee Member Rubye Neal Committee Member Gwendolyn Brown Taylor Committee Member Vivian Summerour-Daniel 5. Election of Officers (must be present to vote) Chuck Warbington led the discussion regarding the Officer Elections. Committee Member Maxey nominated Paula Foil to be the Secretary for the Committee. Committee Member Maxey nominated Greg Lott to be the Vice Chair for the Committee Committee Member Deidra Williams nominated Coni Brown to be the Chair for the Committee. Motion to approve Paula Foil as the Secretary, Greg Lott as the Vice Chair, and Coni Brown as the Chair for the Committee for 2024 made by Committee Member Maxey, Seconded by Committee Member Johnson. Voting Yea: Committee Member Bailey, Committee Member Brown, Committee Member Williams, Committee Member Dunnigan, Committee Member Glenn, Committee Member Johnson, Committee Member Lott, Committee Member Maxey, Committee Member Moore, Committee Member Neal, Committee Member Brown Taylor, Committee Member Summerour-Daniel Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes 6. Approval of Meeting Minutes for November 14, 2023 Motion to approve the Meeting Minutes for the November 14, 2023 Meeting made by Committee Member Dunnigan, Seconded by Committee Member Johnson. Voting Yea: Committee Member Bailey, Committee Member Brown, Committee Member Williams, Committee Member Dunnigan, Committee Member Glenn, Committee Member Johnson, Committee Member Lott, Committee Member Maxey, Committee Member Moore, Committee Member Neal, Committee Member Brown Taylor, Committee Member Summerour-Daniel Old Business 7. Project Status Update – Mr. Jay Meister and Mr. Mark Baumgart Mr. Jay Meister and Mr. Mark Baumgart, Gwinnett County introduced themselves to the Committee and gave the latest update on the Hooper-Renwick Themed Library project. Standing structural steel was placed this week. We are looking to have a completion date in mid-2025. The remaining details were signed this week. There will be no further money or other items to be approved. Exhibits will take 13 months to install; 11 months to create and 2 months to install. 8. Project Status Update – Mrs. Cammie Mansfield Mrs. Cammie Mansfield, Gwinnett County gave her update to the Committee. They have temporary exhibits displayed in 5 churches. These were placed for the month of February, but several churches have asked to keep the exhibits longer, so they are still on display. Cammie will send photos to Committee in the next few weeks. Oral histories- oral history recordings continue to be made. The plan is to have one Friday a month for recordings. Cammie will send out the dates for the recordings. She asked everyone to please send her their contacts they wish to have recorded for an oral history so she can reach out to them to schedule their recording time. 9. Artifacts Update Committee Member Moore and Mrs. Cammie Mansfield said they are still collecting artifacts. New Business 10. Speaker Series Update Committee Member Maxey said that he and Committee Member Moore were speakers in the recent Speaker Series held at the Lawrenceville Arts Center. 11. Hooper-Renwick Site Visit Update Chairwoman Brown said that she and Chuck Warbington attended a site visit at the Hooper- Renwick Library site with Congresswoman Lucy McBath. She said that they toured the outside of the building and saw the recently updated rendering for the library. Chuck Warbington said that Chairwoman Brown represented the Committee well during the site visit and she told compelling stories during that visit. Committee Member Maxey mentioned that people are interested and that the Committee needs to continue to get the word out. Chuck thanked each member of the Committee for being present at the meeting and he thanked former Council Member Glenn Martin thank you for attending and being involved. He said that everything is signed, approved, and ready for the library project for mid-2025 completion and he encouraged the Committee to continue to share the story. Cities are beginning to have events - please share the news of the library which will continue to build the excitement.
