General Discussion
2. Update on 157 North Perry Alleyway Project
Chad Smith was not present at the meeting. Jasmine Billings provided the update for 157
North Perry Street Project. Some additional updated designs received from Chad were
presented and all three renderings were reviewed together. The new design showed rebar
trees through the alleyway, and Chad had indicated that the rebar could be left to rust, or
painted black. The Electric Department advised that they can add uplighting with conduit
underground to alleviate any trip hazard and relieve building owners from providing
power. The group was asked to consider regrouping on this project since this was the first
project and a lot of ideas have been presented. Uplighting can incorporate the City seal,
possibly tie it into the Heritage Trail. It was noted that the alleyway is fairly narrow and the
renderings make it look bigger than it actually is. The feeling was the trees would be too
much for the area but could possibly be used in a different location, maybe a roundabout in
the College Corridor. The flooring idea presented was hammered concrete since this would
allow for different textures.
3. Update on The Depot District Project
Chad Smith was not present at the meeting. Jasmine Billings presented an update on the
Depot District in his place. A new rendering was presented which mirrored the update for the
alleyway. When all three renderings were presented together, the group felt the first two
renderings had a more industrial feel, where the trees seemed too modern for the area, given
that Lawrenceville is more of an old town. The College Corridor may be a more appropriate
location for the trees. There was also no signage included in the newest rendering. Design 2
is a little more nature oriented and is not as plain as the first design. Several ideas were
discussed for the lighting aspect to give it a "nature" feel.
4. College Corridor Project Update
Jasmine Billings presented an update on the College Corridor, showing some ideas for artistic
pieces that could be put in one of the roundabouts. The roundabouts will contain
landscaping in each so design will need to take that into consideration. Several ideas were
presented to give ideas for those locations. One roundabout will contain a gateway sign. The
tree was still a popular choice, and Jasmine asked the group to forward additional ideas to
her and Commission Member Sanders. Before anybody is commissioned to work on this
piece, the design ideas will need to be more concrete.
Oliver Hardy and Ezzard Charles were mentioned as prior Lawrenceville residents that could
possibly be incorporated into future art projects within the city.
5. Potential Project List
This agenda item will be moved to next month's meeting.
Other Business
It was noted that the group has a lot of great ideas and will need to work together to
begin making decisions.
