LAWRENCEVILLE ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES Tuesday, February 09, 2021 Council Assembly Room 6:00 PM 70 S. Clayton St, GA 30046 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:03 PM by Commission Member Sanders recognizing a quorum with 4 members present. Commission Member Clark arrived at 6:41 PM. Approval of Agenda The Proposed Projects update and Presentation of Proposed Budget will be discussed under Other Business. Bob Clark arrived at 6:41 PM and was not present for the Approval of the Agenda. Motion to approve the agenda with additions was made by Commission Member Walden, Seconded by Commission Member Stone-Collins. Voting Yea: Commission Member Chitwood, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders Voting Abstaining: Commission Member Clark Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes 1. Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes Motion to approve the Prior Meeting Minutes was made by Commission Member Stone- Collins, Seconded by Commission Member Walden.  Voting Yea: Commission Member Chitwood, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders Voting Abstaining: Commission Member Clark (not present) General Discussion 2. Update on The Depot District Project Jasmine Billings presented an update, indicating that more concrete ideas were needed. The locations for the overhead signs were reviewed and discussed. Commission Member Sanders and Commission Member Billings advised that they have spoken with several of the businesses located in the Depot District regarding the placement of the signs and obtained feedback regarding truck traffic in that area. The reason for the overhead signs is to keep large trucks out of the downtown area, and some concern from Depot business owners was the ability for trucks to make deliveries to their business. The exact location has not yet been confirmed and additional feedback from other business owners will be obtained. Style options for the signs was discussed and features from several different signs and renderings were chosen to potentially incorporate into the actual project. Jasmine will provide Chad Smith with a more detailed description of what the Commission Members would like to see incorporated into this project so he can provide a new rendering. Jasmine also advised that if some materials/ideas that are presented would not necessarily fit into the Depot Project can be moved to another project if the Commission Members felt it would work elsewhere. 3. Update on 157 North Perry Alleyway Project The original design was re-visited and it was determined that the design will be more simplistic, but changes could certainly be made down the road. Flooring ideas were presented and discussed, including a incorporating a mosaic design into the alleyway, that could be more of an accent, but built upon down the road. Jasmine will present the ideas discussed to Chad Smith so he can provide a new rendering to incorporate these ideas. Commission Member Clark arrived at 6:41 PM Lighting ideas were shown and Jasmine advised that the Gas Department could make these gas lights. The alleyway could also include lights strung in a zig-zag fashion across the top to provide additional lighting. Signage will need to be completed and an etched metal sign was presented to possibly be installed on the side of the buildings. It was noted that walking down the alleyway at night provides a beautiful view of the Historic Courthouse framed by the walls on either side and it would be a shame to cover that view up with signage. A potential marketing campaign was discussed to name the alleyway and wall art will be discussed in the future. The overall design would need to be approved by Council prior to  marketing campaign, and it was suggested that the Arts Commission members provide potential name choices and have the public vote on them. Commission Member Walden indicated that she would like to learn more about the history of the building that was previously there and potentially incorporating something from that into the name. 4. Roundabout Project Update Several artistic ideas were presented, but the project remains in discussion phase. It was suggested for the Commission Members to walk the area to get a feel of where these art pieces will be installed. Jasmine will contact the College Corridor Project Manager to arrange small groups to tour the area which will hopefully help them to determine the design/piece of art they would like to see installed. Once the design is determined, the Commission Members can decide if they will entertain submissions from artists, who will have to adhere to the parameters set by the Commission. Other Business Jasmine Billings advised that she is working on the 2021/2022 budget for the Art Commission and presented a high level preliminary overview of the proposed projects and their costs. Commission Members provided their feedback for suggested adjustments. Commission Member Sanders provided an update on the Potential Projects agenda item indicating that she has experienced some technology issues but encouraged the Commission Members to keep sending their ideas to her. Citizen Comments Comments will be limited to 2 minutes per person. Art Commission members will not respond to comments. Comments were heard by the Commission Members. Final Adjournment Motion to adjourn was made by Commission Member Chitwood, Seconded by Commission Member Walden.
