LAWRENCEVILLE ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES Tuesday, March 09, 2021 Council Assembly Room 6:00 PM 70 S. Clayton St, GA 30046 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Commission Member Sanders, recognizing a quorum. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda was made by Commission Member Clark, Seconded by Commission Member Stone-Collins. Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes Motion to approve the prior meeting minutes was made by Commission Member Walden, Seconded by Commission Member Chitwood. Voting Yea: Commission Member Clark, Commission Member Chitwood, Commission Member Stone-Collins, Commission Member Walden, Commission Member Sanders, Commission Member Abuaisheh General Discussion 2. 157 North Perry Alleyway Project Update Chad Smith presented another drawing. Jasmine Billings met with Chad to discuss the feedback the Commission members provided at previous meetings so he could incorporate those ideas into his drawing. Lighting: The light structure would be made of stainless steel brackets attached to the exterior walls using bolts and epoxy. The holes used to attach the cross members are from the prior roof so the structure would follow the previous roof line. The lights proposed would be mounted on the side of the building and would be able to be pointed up or down, as well as have the ability to change colors. The group still liked the idea of gas lighting which was not included in this drawing. Also, the lighting that will be strung along to top of the alleyway will need to resemble the picture provided previously (small globes) Art: An outside gallery space would be incorporated into the alleyway. It was determined that any art installed in this area would need to be designed to withstand to be an outdoor piece and have the ability for the public to interact with it. This may be a good area for a small mural. Flooring: Three concrete flooring ideas were presented, and Chad indicated that concrete could be stained or bush hammered to make it look like stone and not just concrete. The group did agree on the third option presented, which has a more fluid design. This can be achieved by taking off the top layer of concrete to expose the lower aggregate. Signage: Signage will be installed at both ends of the walkway and the wording to be included on that signage was discussed. Several members did not think that “parking” should be included, but all agreed that the name of the alleyway should be on the sign. The sign would be made out of laser cut steel and possibly be lit from behind. It was suggested that the signage should wrap around the corner of the building. The buildings are privately owned and we may not get permission from the building owners to attach anything to the exterior walls. Wrapping the sign around the corner will allow visibility from multiple sides and installation should be on the right side of the alleyway due to visibility for foot traffic. The Arts Commission hopes to get the community involved in the naming of the alleyway. In order to present the design for approval to Council, the Arts Commission members will need to provide enough direction and details of what the project will look like in general. Chad will provide additional drawings that will incorporate the feedback received from the group. The next steps would be to review these new designs to be able to finalize what will be submitted to Council for approval. Jasmine did remind the group that a Special Call meeting could be called if needed. 3. Depot District Project Update  Chad Smith presented another rendering on the Depot design. He provide a more industrial design which incorporated the feedback from the group. He has designed the two bottom support poles to try to make it more difficult for someone to climb, and lighting will be incorporated into the structure. He will research the exact DOT requirements for the headache bar that will be installed, He will need to get a structural engineer to determine the exact details. In addition, he will incorporate something spherical on the top of the each of the side structures. 4. College Corridor Roundabout Project Update Jasmine Billings provided an update regarding the roundabouts. She was able to tour the project with the Project Manager and Barry Mock, and indicated that the roundabouts are much larger than originally thought. Jasmine will arrange some times for the group to tour the project in small groups to avoid a possible quorum. 5. Budget Update Jasmine Billings advised the group that the budget has been submitted. She thanked the Commission members for their input and will keep the group updated. Other Business Jasmine Billings asked the Commission members to provide their best contact information so she can update her records. Public Comments Comments will be limited to 2 minutes per person. Art Commission members will not respond to comments. There were no publc comments. Final Adjournment Motion to adjourn was made by Commission Member Chitwood, Seconded by Commission Member Abuaisheh.
