General Discussion
2. Naming Ideas for Perry Street Alleyway
Jasmine Billings has been working on how to name the alleyway, and advised the Arts
Commission that a social media post will go out to provide information on the project that
would include a current picture as well as a drawing of what the finished project will look
like. Social Media can also be used to solicit feedback from the community for naming ideas
or to collect historical stories that could help with naming ideas and possibly future art
projects. Several ideas were discussed on how to receive the community's naming
suggestions which included creating a link that can be used for submitting names and
stories. Ultimately the Arts Commission can determine how they want to proceed with the
naming project, how they will proceed if the names obtained are not acceptable and how
Council will assist. An e-mail did go out to the Council members regarding the Alleyway
naming, however, the City Manager felt that it should be the Commission's charge on how to
proceed. It would be ideal to finalize the name before the ribbon cutting ceremony.
This project will also be an introduction of the Arts Commission to the community and it was
felt that a cleverly worded post should introduce the Commission in a very positive way.
Community involvement is important but the need does exist to prevent troll postings, and it
was agreed that using a link to receive input would help.
The project timeline is also dependent on the buildout of the restaurant in the adjacent
building. The flooring will not be installed in the alleyway until the scaffolding is removed.
Motion to complete a social media post that will introduce the Arts Commission, will
introduce this project that will include a current photo as well as a rendering of what the
completed project will look like and to ask for historical stories related to the alleyway
was made by Commission Member Sanders, Seconded by Commission Member Walden.
Voting Yea: Commission Member Clark, Commission Member Chitwood, Commission Member
Walden, Commission Member Sanders, Commission Member Abuaisheh
3. Roundabout Project Update
Jasmine Billings asked if Commission members were able to review the various platforms
that contained the open calls for art provide by Commission Member Stone-Collins had
provided. Members have not had the opportunity to review all of the platforms. Determining
a theme for these areas was also discussed, and well as having a strong idea of what the
Commission wants on this project.
Motion to table this agenda item until the next meeting was made by Commission Member
Clark, Seconded by Commission Member Chitwood.
Voting Yea: Commission Member Clark, Commission Member Chitwood, Commission Member
Walden, Commission Member Sanders, Commission Member Abuaisheh
4. Lawrenceville Arts Commission Branding
Commission Member Sanders advised that the branding sub-committee met with Melissa
Hardegree, Community Relations Director, to discuss the Arts Commission
branding. Commission Member Chitwood discussed putting the Arts Commission on the
website with a link, and that will require a logo. A members list and a group photo can be
added, and this social media post will begin with the City of Lawrenceville's social media
platforms first. The group will also be tasked with coming up with their own hashtags for
these social media posts that are not heavily used or popular. Some of the projects currently
being worked on are not quick ones and are high dollar. The group discussed coming up with
some free events with school about to be out for the summer that would help to advertise the
Arts Commission. Some of those items included sidewalk chalk, rock painting and possibly
one other event that are easy to organize and are not expensive but would help to start
community engagement. There is a potential to include their events with a City event. The
rock project will be great to start back up, is quick and easy to set up and can coincide with
another event.
A subcommittee will be formed to discuss these items and to come up with hashtags, and will
hopefully meet on a weekly basis.
5. Lawrenceville Arts Commission Incentives
Jasmine Billings provided an update indicating that the Financial Director is looking into
incentives of what can be provided.
Other Business
Jasmine Billings advised the Arts Commission members to keep in mind the Summer meeting dates
to maintain a quorum Meeting makers will also be set up for future meetings and once the private
packet is completed will be added to the meeting maker.
The Depot Sign project recommendations were given to the City Manager who is currently working
on that, and it has not yet been presented to Council for approval.
Jasmine is looking into a possible room change for the meeting to a more informal area and will
advise the group of the outcome.
