Public Input on 2025-2026 Budget
Amendments to 2024-2025 Budget
The public hearing regarding the 2025-2026 budget was called to order. Hearing started at 6:02 pm. Mayor
Rowley opened the floor for public comments and discussion on the proposed budget.
No public comments were received.
Christine explained that the proposed budget includes a 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for all hourly
employees. She inquired about the Council's intentions regarding the mayor’s compensation, noting that it had
been mentioned in a previous meeting.
Christine noted that administrative salaries were under budget. She also pointed out that dog licensing and dog
catcher salaries had been removed from the budget since the town no longer has a dog catcher. It was explained
that while official dog licensing had been discontinued, the town still maintains a voluntary system where
residents can register their dogs with photos and contact information for identification purposes.
The Mayor mentioned discussions with county commissioners about potentially implementing a county-wide
approach to animal control. Council members expressed support for not requiring dog licenses since the town
isn't providing related services, noting that historically, compliance with licensing requirements had been low
and problematic dogs typically weren't licensed anyway.
Christine confirmed that the town would still host a vaccination clinic as a service to residents, but without the
licensing requirement.
A question was raised about the splash pad flooring, which was becoming abrasive in some areas with blue
coloring coming off in sections. The Mayor acknowledged they would look into maintenance options. It was
noted that the splash pad uses recycled water and has relatively low maintenance costs overall. The Council also
discussed recent vandalism incidents at the park bathroom, a resident's car, and the snow cone shack, with the
mayor noting that they had eyewitnesses and were working on identifying the perpetrators.
With no further public comments on the budget, a motion was made to close the public hearing.
Adjourn - Motion to adjourn the public hearing regarding the amendment for the 2024-2025 budget and
the 2025-2026 budget made by Ray Evans, seconded by another Chris Chipping. Motion carried unanimously.
Hearing adjourned at 6:43 pm.
Christine Carrigan, Clerk
