Olympia, WA 98504 Dear Commissioner Franz, The Army National Guard faithfully safeguards lives and property across Washington, while serving our nation around the world. The Guard has outgrown its current facilities and is looking for a new home in eastern Washington. Following a thorough search, the Guard’s leadership has zeroed in on a 32 acre site in Liberty Lake that is ideally situated on Interstate 90, just minutes from downtown Spokane. The land is currently owned by the Department of Natural Resources. Last July, Senators Mike Padden, Andy Billig, and John Braun penned a letter committing bipartisan support for developing a new National Guard Readiness Center on this site in Liberty Lake. The City of Liberty Lake, by way of this letter, adds its enthusiastic and wholehearted support for bringing the new Readiness Center to our city! Liberty Lake has a long history of supporting and honoring the military, its mission, and its members and veterans. Just in the past several months the City has partnered with local organizations to bring The Moving Wall, the Washington State Fallen Heroes Memorial, and the Liberty Lake Hometown Heroes Banner Program to Liberty Lake. The public support for each has been a genuine testimony to our community’s enduring respect for men and women in uniform. Providing a new home for the Army National Guard in Liberty Lake would represent a huge win for the Department of Natural Resources, as well as for the Guard members and their families, and the citizens of eastern Washington.
