Meeting Minutes
September 20th, 2023 – 6:00 PM
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting of the Community Engagement Commission was called to order on September 20th, 2023 at 6:00 PM.

APPROVALS:
Commissioner Saba motioned for excusLQJFRPPLVVLRQHUV1RUPDQDQG$VPXV, which was seconded by
Commissioner Kosaka. The motion carried unanimously.
August 16th Meeting Minutes:
Commissioner Saba motioned for approval of the August minutes. Commissioner Darrow seconded, and the mo-
tion carried unanimously.
CITIZEN COMMENTS:
No citizen comments were made at this meeting.
CITY HALL UPDATES:
David Goehner provided a brief rundown of City Hall updates for the commission.
DISCUSSIONS
Commissioner Saba motioned to move CEC Projects Support Discussion (Agenda Item 6B) to the October 18th
meeting. Commissioner Godinez seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
8/15/23 Council Workshop Discussion
The commissioners briefly discussed the main takeaways from the August 15th Council Workshop meeting. Com-
missioners discussed the possibility of hosting a workshop to better connect with Council and to better convey
ideas. Mark McAvoy clarified that any requests suggested by the commission would have indeed been entered
into the requests for the proposed budget. He further clarified the process that Council goes through for review
and approval of the proposed budget during that meeting.
Fall Engagement on Unfunded Items
David Goehner, with input from Mark McAvoy, went over SODQVIRUDVXUYH\RQWKH unfunded items list with the
commission. The commissioners discussed ZD\VRIcreating a survey for these items and putting it out to the
community for input. Commissioner Saba suggested issuing physical copies of the survey to groups such as
Kiwanis for further outreach and in-put.
Farmers Market Final Month
The Farmers Market ends in October, and the commissioners discussed attendance and goals for the last few
event days.
Geographic Areas of CEC Positions
The commissioners discussed the location specifics of the CEC positions, and further discussed the position for
each current member. Further discussion will take place at the October meeting.
Upcoming Opportunities
The commission did not discuss upcoming opportunities at this meeting.
UPCOMING MEETING:
The next meeting of the Community Engagement Commission will take place on October 18, 2023 at 6:00 SP.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business, and with unanimous approval, the meeting adjourned at approximately 7:12

The purpose of the Community Engagement Commission is to serve in an advisory capacity
to the mayor and City Council. The Commission’s role is to gather ideas, input, and
feedback from community members, and to advise and guide city leadership.
Under Governor Inslee’s “Washington Ready” plan, members of the public may attend
meetings in person at City Hall at the address provided above, or via Zoom at the link
below. Members of the public will be allowed to comment in person or via Zoom as
described on the last page of this agenda.
