THE CITY OF LIBERTY LAKE PARKS & ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES FEBRUARY 21ST, 2018 - 4:00 PM CALL TO ORDER: Jennifer Camp, Maintenance & Operations Director for the City of Liberty Lake, called the meeting of the Parks and Arts Commission to order at 4:00 PM on February 21st, 2018. ROLL CALL: Commissioner David Himebaugh Commissioner Laina Schutz Commissioner Laura Frank Commissioner Bridgette Harris Commissioner Tom Chamberlain Adjunct Bob Schneidmiller - excused Commissioner Jeanette Nall- excused Maintenance & Operations Director Jennifer Camp Commissioner Tom Sahlberg Administrative Assistant Tait Hunter AGENDA REVIEW: Due to attendance last meeting, there were no minutes to approve. There was a memo given to commissioners. For clarity, the memo was not approved since these were not formal minutes, however, the minutes from January 24, 2018 minutes were approved. Sam Nelson, former Adjunct, resigned from his position. FIRST CITIZEN COMMENTS: At this time, there were no initial citizen comments made. ACTION ITEMS: Ross Schneidmiller, local historian, presented his ideas for brining art to the area, as well as gave the commissioners a brief history of the area and how it ties into local landmarks such as the Pavillion Shelter. He handed out various photos of artwork from other cities, where electric boxes were used to showcase art, as well as potential options like bringing in sculptures. He made the recommendation of bringing in a “travelling art show” to the commissioners. This would be an art show that could be at one of the parks for a given amount of time, where the artists could sell their work, and artwork could be introduced to the community without the fear of permanence. A recommendation he made to the commission when then asked where to start, was to have the budget for art integration ready. STUDENT COMMISSIONER POSITION UPDATE: The commission at this point has received 4 applications from students looking to join the commission. It was discussed and agreed upon to allow all 4 to join, as well as it was also discussed that the Youth Commission would return, and that this was also an avenue that could be explored. SOCIAL MEDIA POLL UPDATE: Members of the commission had noticed that since spreading the poll further to community pages, it received much more feedback. Specifically, it received many requests for a disc golf course. It was then discussed that this was a local who had encouraged other to flood the poll with this request, therefore this was a skewed result. FINAL CITIZEN COMMENTS: At this time, no comments from citizens were made. MEETING ADJOURNMENT: At 4:59 PM, the meeting concluded.
