THE CITY OF LIBERTY LAKE PARKS & ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES MAY 2ND, 2018 - 4:00 PM CALL TO ORDER: Jennifer Camp, Maintenance & Operations Director for the City of Liberty Lake, called the meeting of the Parks and Arts Commission to order at 4:00 PM on May 2nd, 2018. ROLL CALL: Commissioner David Himebaugh Commissioner Laina Schutz Commissioner Laura Frank Commissioner Bridgette Harris Commissioner Tom Chamberlain Adjunct Bob Schneidmiller Commissioner Tom Sahlberg Maintenance & Operations Director Jennifer Camp Student Commissioner Caleb Betts Administrative Assistant Tait Hunter Excused Student Commissioner Katelyn Hansen Excused Student Commissioner Natalia Alva Unexcused AGENDA: The minutes from the April 18th meeting were approved. NEW & UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Commissioners Frank and Sahlberg briefly went over their time at the previous night’s City Council Meeting. They stated that the Council seemed supportive of introducing art into the community via the electrical boxes, and that they commission should begin detailed research on how to begin the project. Commissioner Sahlberg noted that the idea to reimburse the Friends of Pavillion Park for the symphony was received hesitantly by council and that there may need to be more work done on this idea. NOMINATIONS & DECISIONS: Nominations for Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary were put on hold as the commission felt all members should be present for nominations. As for the open Position 4, Jennifer Camp forwarded the two applicants information and applications to the current commissioners. The by-laws were also postponed until all commissioners could be present. PRESENTATIONS: Dr. Harkin spoke at the meeting, going over his tie to art in the community as well as his ties to the Spokane Chamber and Spokane Valley Arts Council. He explained to them the Spokane Valley Arts Council’s grant process as well. He addressed that the commission should consider a 501 C 3 for integrating art into the community and having the proper funding possibilities. Councilmember Dan Dunne briefly spoke on the potential for lamp posts at Town Square Park to have our new municipal flag. He expressed that Paul Puhik and himself had a discussion regarding more possibilities for banners at the Park. Jennifer Camp addressed the commissioners to let them know that there would be logistical details that would need to be worked out to achieve this. CITIZEN COMMENTS: The Mayor briefly spoke on the commissioners, the potential for art funding, and the parks. Councilmember Brickner also spoke on his excitement for the ideas brought to the table so far and his appreciation for the commission. MEETING ADJOURNMENT: At 4:54 PM, the meeting concluded.
