THE CITY OF LIBERTY LAKE PARKS & ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES JUNE 5TH, 2019 - 4:00 PM CALL TO ORDER: Chair Laina Schutz called the meeting of the Parks and Arts Commission to order at 4:00 PM on June 5th, 2019. ROLL CALL: Commissioner David Himebaugh Commissioner Laina Schutz Commissioner Laura Frank Commissioner Bridgette Harris Commissioner Tom Chamberlain Adjunct Bob Schneidmiller Commissioner Tom Sahlberg Excused Maintenance & Operations Director Jennifer Camp Commissioner Tom Stanley Excused Activities & Events Maintenance Worker Anita Eylar Administrative Assistant Tait Hunter Student Commissioner Caleb Betts Unexcused Student Commissioner Katelyn Hansen Excused APPROVALS: The approval of the May 15th minutes was postponed until the June 19th meeting. STAFF REPORT: Jennifer Camp, Operations & Maintenance Director, provided an update on the donated boxes from Valley Transformer, as well as an update on the art donation agreement. She also let the commission know that for another year in a row, the City would be receiving the donation tomato and pepper plants, and that the community gardeners would have first choice. The Liberty Lake Athletic club’s donation amount of $558.26 was recognized and accepted. NEW & UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The commission took time to discuss the theoretical “stopping point” for recreation programs in the City. The City does not personally host any, but has contracts with Skyhawks and British Challenger Soccer, which provide multi-sport classes for the youth in the community. The commission also discussed the necessity for adult recreation programs, and how they could fit in the current recreation program line-up. GENERAL BUSINESS: The commission discussed and agreed upon an extension for the Call to Artists in relation to the goat statue project. Commissioner Chamberlain spoke on behalf of the Rotary Club, stating that the Rotary would be willing to GENERAL BUSINESS CONTINUED: make a donation for an electrical box wrap, provided art work could be hand selected. The commission discussed what to do with the remaining boxes and art selections. It was decided that further discussion would continue at the June 19th meeting. Commissioner Himebaugh presented potential colors for the power coating work to be done on the Story Walk stands. Jennifer Camp reminded the commission to begin generating ideas and lists for the upcoming budget season, and preparation for the 2020 Strategic Plan. The commission discussed the idea of eliminating the July 3rd meeting, as it is so close to a holiday and many commissioners may not be available. Commissioner Himebaugh moved to skip the July 3rd meeting, which Commissioner Chamberlain seconded. The motion passed unanimously. CITIZEN COMMENTS: No citizen comments were made. MEETING ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:02 PM.
