Fox Valley Metro Police Department Police Commission Meeting Minutes May 7, 2019 Present Commissioners: Bill Van Berkel Scott Schommer Jason Nate Jason Weber Sue Brown Mark Verhagen Dept. Members: Daniel Meister , Chief of Police Kelly Vanden Heuvel, Administrative Manager Public: Nicole Hernandez, Resident The meeting was called to order at 6:00pm and roll call was taken. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Jason Nate to approve the minutes from the March 12, 2019 meeting. Mark Verhagen seconded the motion. The motion carried, 5-0, Sue Brown abstained. Election of Commission Officers Upon a motion by Mark Verhagen, and seconded by Jason Weber, the commission voted Scott Schommer Police Commission President. Motion carried 5-0. Upon a Motion by Bill Van Berkel, and seconded by Mark Verhagen, the commission voted Jason Weber Police Commission Vice-president. Motion carried 5-0. Upon a motion by Mark Verhagen, and seconded by Scott Schommer, the commission voted Bill Van Berkel Police Commission Secretary. Motion carried 5-0. All Police Commission Officer positions are effective immediately. New Business Discussion was had regarding the designation of Records Keeper. Mark Verhagen made a motion to designate the position of Administrative Manager at the Fox Valley Metro Police Department as the Records Keeper. Jason Nate seconded the motion. The motion carried, 5-0. Public Appearances to Address the Police Commission Nicole Hernandez, 226 Eugene Ct, Kimberly, addressed the Police Commission regarding the Duty of the Police Department, expected accommodations/modifications that would be made when working with those in the public who exhibit or display signs of mental illness, and the process required to file a formal complaint against the police department. Closed Session A motion was made by Jason Weber to adjourn to closed session. Bill Van Berkel seconded the motion. The motion carried, 5–0. A motion was made by Bill Van Berkel to return to open session. Mark Verhagen seconded the motion. The motion carried, 5-0. Action from Closed Session None Commission President Communications None Chief’s Report Chief Meister reported Officer Pynenberg has been with the Fox Valley Metro Police Department for one year and has completed his probationary status. Upcoming events that Metro will be participating in include Coffee with a Cop at Coffee and Chocolate in Kimberly, Police Lights of Christmas Law Force Recognition at the Timber Rattlers Stadium, and Remember Everyone Deployed, “RED Friday” inaugural event at Trigger Action Sports. Fox Valley Metro will be hosting National Night Out on August 6th from 5pm – 8pm at Sunset Park in Kimberly. Additional events for police services include the Memorial Day Parade, Paperfest, Cheese Fest, Bazaar After Dark, Kimberly Fireworks, and Rock Cancer. All officers have attended training this year for first aid/CPR, emergency vehicle operations, and firearms. The next Police Commission Meeting will be at 6:00pm on Tuesday, August 13th in the Aspen/Birch room at the Village of Kimberly Municipal Complex.
