FROM: Rachel Sandoval, Recreation Manager
SUBJ: Poetry Slam Event Wrap Up
TYPE ACTION NEEDED: Discussion
PREPARED BY: Rachel Sandoval, Recreation Manager
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Poetry Slam Event Wrap Up
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Poetry Slam was on Friday April 21, in the Thomas Theater. The Poetry Slam event had teen writers,
guest speakers, rappers, and poets. We offered a coffee bar and the theater had the ambiance of a café
setting. The Poetry Slam celebrated teens, literacy, and poetry appreciation. There were cash prizes that were
given out to the best poets.
Items to discuss regarding this event:
• Set up or changes to the Poetry Slam
• Marketing efforts: LUSD
• Donations of cash prizes by Library, were they sufficient?
• Snack purchases and coffee bar, good choices?
• Coffee equipment rental?
• Attendance of guests…number?
• Who attended from LYC and Library Teen Board?
• Do we do Poetry Slam again?

GREATER LODI AREA YOUTH COMMISSION COMMUNICATION
TO: Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission DATE OF MEETING: May 8, 2023
FROM: Rachel Sandoval, Recreation Manager
SUBJ: Love Lodi Event Wrap Up
TYPE ACTION NEEDED: Discussion
PREPARED BY: Rachel Sandoval, Recreation Manager
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Love Lodi Event Wrap Up
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Love Lodi event was April 29. The community service project that the Lodi Youth Commission selected
was at Kofu Park painting bleacher planks. There was certainly more community participation, hands on work
experiences, and team effort was the theme of the project. The Lodi Youth Commissioners learned
responsibility, enjoyed being part of the community, and pride in making a difference.
Discussion:
• Attendance
• How many hours were worked?
• How many Advisors showed up?
• How was the work task?
• What work equipment was needed?
• Will this be a service we pick next year?
FUNDING CONSIDERATION OR IMPACT: None
