Roll Call Meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. Present: Chair Woefel, Commissioners Schrenk, Spring, Whitmire, Legan Absent: Staff Present: Tyler Ashbaugh, Recreation Manager Public: Nora Strobe (from Leadership Lodi) B. Minutes of May Regular Meeting Motion by Commissioner to approve the minutes of the May 5, 2022 meeting. Second by Commissioner . DISCUSSION None Ayes: Chair Woefel, Commissioners Schrenk, Spring, Whitmire Noes: None Absent: Commissioner Legan Motion carried 4 – 0 C. Comments by the Public, Commission and Staff on Non-Agenda Items DISCUSSION Nora Strobe introduced herself as a member of Leadership Lodi. Nora Strobe was assigned by Leadership Lodi to participate in the commission meeting to gain more knowledge and understand the inner workings. D. Action Items D-1. Commissioners reviewed the opportunity to participate congruent with the University of the Pacific (UOP) Medicare Health Fair held on November 20, 2022. Commissioners proposed organizing vendor booths to provide senior services and information for customers in Crete Hall. These booths would not be selling or profiting from the event, rather providing necessary services and information that are not already being provided by the Medicare Health Fair. Commission Chair, Joe Woefel explained the services provided by UOP at the Health Fair such as identifying health care plans, completing health screens, providing free immunizations. The Commission asked to see if Crete Hall is available to use. Recreation Manager, Tyler Ashbaugh, will check room availability after the meeting. Commissioners mentioned organizations that would be contacted after room availability is confirmed. These organizations included San Joaquin County Department of Aging, Human Services, and Center for Medicare/Medicaid, Adventist Health Memorial Hospital, and Loel Center. The Commission decided to move forward with the Resource Center congruent with the Medicare Health Fair. Recreation Manager, Tyler Ashbaugh and Commissioners will communicate via email and phone on next steps to coordinate the arrangement of the event. E. Regular Agenda – Discussion Items None F. Comments by the Commissioner and Staff on Non-Agenda Items Recreation Manager, Tyler Ashbaugh, stated that Public Works Director, Charles Swimley, will attend the next meeting on October 6 to present the Walkability Program plans with the Commission. Recreation Manager, Tyler Ashbaugh, mentioned the Senior Bylaws will be approved on September 21, 2022 at the next City Council Meeting. Recreation Manager, Tyler Ashbaugh reminded the Commission to promote the two vacancies and explained where to locate the job application. G. Adjournment Meeting adjourned at 8:31 a.m.  LODI SENIOR CITIZENS COMMISSION COMMUNICATION TO: Lodi Senior Citizens Commission DATE OF MEETING: October 6, 2022 FROM: Tyler Ashbaugh, Recreation Manager SUBJ: Walkability Program Recommendations by Public Works Director, Charles Swimley TYPE ACTION NEEDED: Discussion PREPARED BY: Tyler Ashbaugh, Recreation Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION: Walkability Program Recommendations by Public Works Director, Charles Swimley BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Walkability Program supports physical activity and walk safety for older adults. Commission Whitmire shared its program benefits from previous San Joaquin County Walkability Program meetings she attended. Public Works Director, Charles Swimley, was invited to the April meeting to provide information about stop light requirements at city crosswalks and described the city’s process to comply and monitor. Mr. Swimley requested the Commission identify “Senior Zones” for implementation. Staff identified and recommended various “Senior Zones” due to their high concentration of senior living areas, parks and shopping centers, and areas of uneven sidewalks at the East side of Lodi at the May meeting and the Commission finalized an implementation plan at their July meeting. Mr. Swimley will discuss Public Works’ plans and next steps on the implementation of the Walkability Program including its costs, project start time and duration, and proposal plans. The Commission will discuss their direction for the Walkability Program based on the information presented to begin project implementation. The Commission shall discuss room layouts and equipment needs, and provide Staff a list of who will be attending the event. Commissioners will share which organizations they’ve contacted and make recommendations for other organizations to attend. Vendor applications are due November 1, 2022. The Commission will present the final list vendor applications at the regular November meeting to review what services, resources and information will be provided.
