City of Loganville Planning & Development MINUTES Planning Commission Business Meeting Thursday, January 24, 2013 Municipal Council Chambers In attendance: Planning & Development Director, Tim Prater; Planning Commission Chairperson, Ed Warren; Planning Commissioners: Sonny Medlin, Barbara Forrester, Arno Angulo and R.C. Shanks and Bruce Granoff. Steven Landers was absent. Council Member, Michelle Lynch and Fire Marshall Kent Durden were present. Administrative Assistant, Nina Ramsey recorded the minutes. ● Ed Warren called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. ● Invocation given by Sonny Medlin ● Pledge to the Flag ● A motion was made by R.C. Shanks and seconded by Arno Angulo to approve the December 20, 2012 minutes. Motion carried 5 – 0. Tim Prater presented the following case: Case #V13-001 Colonial Buick GMC filed an application requesting a variance from the City of Loganville Zoning Ordinance Chapter 119-217 (f) Materials for facings. The property is located at 3965 Atlanta Highway, Map/Parcel #5160-023, Gwinnett County, Georgia and zoned CH (Commercial Highway). The property owner is Thomas L. Hollis/HWK Investments, Inc. Mark Sambol and Mr. Tom Hollis were present. No one spoke in opposition. Mr. Sambol addressed the Commissioners explaining the standard building design required for GMC dealerships. He said those who comply with GMC’s standard building designs receive financial incentives from the corporation which allows the dealership to offer competitive prices. He brought a section of an aluminum composite metal panel to demonstrate the thickness and finish on the building material. He stated it was an expensive, high quality product with a 25 year warranty. A motion was made by R.C. Shanks and seconded by Sonny Medlin to recommend the City Council approve Variance #V13-001. Motion carried 5 – 0 therefore the recommendation is to approve Variance #V13-001 and allow the façade of the Colonial Buick building to be engineered of aluminum composite metal panels. A motion was made by Sony Medlin and seconded by R.S. Shanks to adjourn.
