BROADWAY, STE. 400 CONDEMNATION MINUTES LONG BEACH, CA 90802, 2:30 PM REGULAR MEETING - 2:30 P.M Chairwoman Fitzpatrick opened the hearing at 2:33 p.m. CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL Commissioners Jo Anne Fitzpatrick, Jim Thompson and Michael Hamilton Present: Commissioners Diane L. Arnold and Michael W. McCarthy Excused: SWEARING OF WITNESSES Chairwoman Fitzpatrick asked for all people in the audience who plan to give testimony to please stand, raise their right hand and they were sworn in by Elbert Dubose. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF APRIL 21, 2014 It was moved by Board Member Thompson and seconded by Board Member Hamilton to approve the minutes as submitted. The motion carried 3-0. BROADWAY, STE. 400 CONDEMNATION MINUTES LONG BEACH, CA 90802, 2:30 PM 1 CASE NO. C - 7843-01-14: 2090 KNOXVILLE AVENUE, MICHAEL AND LINDA FERRERA, Owners, Proj. No. CESB203417, Council Dist. 4 Substandard Building Case Chairwoman Fitzpatrick called for the owner or representative to appear before the Board and Michael Ferrera 2090 Knoxville Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90815, owner, appeared. Staff indicated that as per recent inspection, the property remains in violation. It was moved by Chairwoman Fitzpatrick and seconded by Board Member Thompson to conclude the Hearing, adopt the findings of the Building Official as the Board’s findings, determine that the Single Family Dwelling with Detached Garage is substandard and a public nuisance, and order the owner to rehabilitate the structures as per Findings dated May 9, 2014 by July 19, 2014. Also, order the owner to maintain the structures in a safe, clean and secure manner until the rehabilitations are complete. The motion carried unanimously. 2 CASE NO. C-7846-05-14: 2372 ATLANTIC AVENUE, JOYCE MARIE JOHNSON, Owner, Proj. No. CESB205989, Council Dist. 6 Substandard Building Case Chairwoman Fitzpatrick called for the owner or representative to appear before the Board and Joyce Marie Johnson, 721 Beachcomber Drive, Seal Beach, CA 90740, owner, appeared. Staff indicated that as per recent inspection, the property remains in violation. It was moved by Chairwoman Fitzpatrick and seconded by Board Member Thompson to conclude the Hearing, adopt the findings of the Building Official as the Board’s findings, determine that the Single Family Dwelling is substandard and a public nuisance, and order the owner to rehabilitate the structure as per Findings dated May 9, 2014 by July 19, 2014. Also, order the owner to maintain the structures in a safe, clean and secure manner until the rehabilitations are complete. The motion carried unanimously. BROADWAY, STE. 400 CONDEMNATION MINUTES LONG BEACH, CA 90802, 2:30 PM NEW OR UNFINISHED BUSINESS Staff advised that reappointment letters have been made available to the board members if they were interested in continuing to serve on the Board of Examiners, Appeals and Condemnation. Elections will be conducted at our next Board meeting. The board has agreed to act as the appeal body for the Administrative Citation Appeal and Tenant Relocation Hearings. The Board requested a Mock Trial at the next meeting. SET DATE FOR NEXT HEARING: JUNE 16, 2014 MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Board Member Thompson and seconded by Chairwoman Fitzpatrick that the hearing be adjourned at 3:25 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
