CITY OF LONG BEACH THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2017 CITIZENS' ADVISORY 333 W. OCEAN BOULEVARD COMMISSION ON COUNCIL CHAMBER, 1:00 PM DISABILITIES MINUTES Deaka McClain, Chair Daryl Crouse, Member David Gauthier, Vice Chair Richard Hernandez, Member Ciara Calsita, Secretary Chris Karadjov, Member Anthony Bell, Member Jamone Pili, Member FINISHED AGENDA & MINUTES CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Citizen's Advisory Commission on Disabilities was called to order at 1:07 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2017, in the Council Chamber, 333 W Ocean Blvd, Lobby Level, Long Beach, CA. ROLL CALL Commissioners Anthony Bell, Richard Hernandez, Chris Karadjov, Jamone Pili, Present: Ciara Calsita, David Gauthier and Deaka McClain Commissioners Daryl Crouse Absent: PUBLIC PARTICIPATION Frances Emily Dawson Harris spoke about the Festival of Human Abilities and requested that CACoD start allowing for public comment at the end of each commission meeting. Ms. Harris also requested another presentation on truncated domes and a presentation from the City's LBPD MET Team. Lastly, Ms. Harris advised the commission on her variuos projects with Long Beach Transit and the United States Post Office. Josephine Caron, Department of Library Services, announced that Information Center for People with Disabilities is actively recruiting volunteers and urged people to go the website for more information. Ms. Caron also let the commission know that the ICPD was receiving various updated assistive devices, but had not received the new software. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. 17-013CA Recommendation to approve minutes from the January 12, 2017 CACoD meeting. A motion was made by Vice Chair Gauthier, seconded by Commissioner Hernandez, to approve recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Anthony Bell, Richard Hernandez, Chris Karadjov, Jamone Pili, Ciara Calsita, David Gauthier and Deaka McClain Absent: 1 - Daryl Crouse COMMITTEE REPORTS No committee reports given. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Anthony Bell, Richard Hernandez, Chris Karadjov, Jamone Pili, Ciara Calsita, David Gauthier and Deaka McClain Absent: 1 - Daryl Crouse 3. 17-015CA Recommendation to receive and discuss CACoD Bylaws Ad Hoc Committee report. A motion was made by Commissioner Bell, seconded by Commissioner Pili, to laid over. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Anthony Bell, Richard Hernandez, Chris Karadjov, Jamone Pili, Ciara Calsita, David Gauthier and Deaka McClain Absent: 1 - Daryl Crouse 4. 17-016CA Recommendation to discuss ways that CACoD can partner with the Main Library for future trainings. A motion was made by Commissioner Bell, seconded by Commissioner Hernandez, to laid over. A motion was made by Secretary Calsita, seconded by Commissioner Hernandez, to received and filed. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Anthony Bell, Richard Hernandez, Chris Karadjov, Jamone Pili, Ciara Calsita, David Gauthier and Deaka McClain Absent: 1 - Daryl Crouse 6. 17-018CA Recommendation to create a standing agenda item that allows for monthly guest speakers. A motion was made by Vice Chair Gauthier, seconded by Secretary Calsita, to approve recommendation.
