OCEAN BOULEVARD, 1:00 DISABILITIES MINUTES PM PUBLIC PARTICIPATION Mary Zendajas spoke about the DSS MAPS to College (mentoring program at CSULB) Event on 11/1/17. Jennifer Kumiyama, staff representative from Council District 1, invited CACoD to partner with CD1 on 10/24 from 3-5 PM at City Council for a DEAM event, France Emily Dawson Harris spoke about her post office projects, gave several handouts, and requested a letter of support from CACoD. John Kindrick, Vice Chair, Long Beach Gray Panthers, co-founder Long Beach Environmental Alliance, spoke about the need to have the disability community more involved and represented in the housing discussion. He also voiced his concerns about LB Transit bus benches being taken away from bus stops to discourage loitering and the lack of shade available at stops. Lastly, Mr. Kendrick advised the commission about a pharmaceutical take-back event coming up on October 28. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES 17-071CA Recommendation to approve minutes from the September 14, 2017 meeting of the Citizen's Advisory Commission on Disabilities. A motion was made by Commissioner Hernandez, seconded by Vice Chair McClain, to approve recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 6 - Ciara Calsita, Richard Hernandez, Chris Karadjov, Jessica Marquez, Deaka McClain and David Gauthier Absent: 2 - Jamone Pili and Daryl Crouse STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS No reports this month. OCEAN BOULEVARD, 1:00 DISABILITIES MINUTES PM AD-HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS Calendar Ad Hoc Committee reminded the commission about upcoming events: Disability Celebration Day at Grace Presbyterian, Hope & Joy (alzheimer's and dementia awareness) at St. Cornelius, & DEAM Event on 10/26. Mentoring Day 2017 Ad-Hoc: recapped event OLD BUSINESS 17-067CA Recommendation to discuss and approve any final recommendations from Disability Employment Awareness Month 2017 ad-hoc committee. A motion was made by Vice Chair McClain, seconded by Commissioner Calsita, to approve recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 7 - Ciara Calsita, Richard Hernandez, Chris Karadjov, Jessica Marquez, Jamone Pili, Deaka McClain and David Gauthier Absent: 1 - Daryl Crouse STAFF REPORT Heather Blackmun, Citywide ADA/Title VI Coordinator, reminded commission of upcoming events, opened discussion regarding the council district 1 event, and apprised the commission of the upcoming new hearing loop policy. Lastly, Ms. Blackmun announced that Eric Widstrand, City Traffic Engineer, will sit in on the blue curb discussion in November.
