The meeting was called to order by Chair McClain at 1:10 pm.

A motion was made by Commissioner Diamond, seconded by
Commissioner Bruns, to approve recommendation. The motion

2. 19-019CA Recommendation to approve minutes from the April 11, 2019 meeting
of the Citizen's Adisory Commission on Disabilities.
3. 19-020CA Recommendation to approve minutes from the May 9, 2019 meeting of
the Citizen's Advisory Commission on Disabilities.
A motion was made by Commissioner Diamond, seconded by
Commissioner Karadjov, to approve recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
4. 19-021CA Recommendation to receive and file monthly report by the Youth,
Employment & Programs standing commitee or adopt any
recommendations this committee would like to make.
Commissioner Calsita reported that the committee met in April and discussed a
timeline for recommendations regarding statement of inclusion. The committee
plans to bring their recommendations to the whole commission in October.
A motion was made by Commissioner Calsita, seconded by
Commissioner Karadjov, to approve recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:

5. 19-022CA Recommendation to receive and file monthly report by the
Accessibility, Transportation & Services standing committee or adopt
any recommendations this committee would like to make.
Commissioner Diamond reported that the committee discussed the PRM
catalogue analysis regarding adaptive and accessible programming.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bruns, seconded by
Commissioner Calsita, to approve recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:

and Deaka McClain

NEW BUSINESS
6. 19-023CA Recommendation to receive and file a report from Commissioner
Karadjov regarding his visit to the assistive technology lab at the
CSULB College of Engineering.
Commissioner Karadjov reported that the College of Engineering includes a lab
that students use to test different accessibility designs, including mock airplane
cabins and kitchens. Commissioner Karadjov said he was encouraged by his
visit to the lab and suggested that the commission/City work to collaborate on
things in the future and utilize the work that takes place at CSULB.
A motion was made by Commissioner Calsita, seconded by
Commissioner Diamond, to approve recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:

7. 19-024CA Recommendation to discuss and adopt any recommendations this
commission would like to make to the city manager regarding the City's
Economic Blueprint shared in March 2019 by John Keisler, Director of
Economic Development. Any recommendations adopted will be sent to
the city manager via a letter of recommendation.
A motion was made by Commissioner Karadjov, seconded by
Commissioner Bruns, to laid over. The motion carried by the
following vote:

and Deaka McClain
Absent: 3 - Connie Gutierrez, Jamone Pili and Nubia Flores Cedeno
8. 19-025CA Recommendation to discuss and adopt any recommendations this
commission would like to make to the mayor, city council and city
manager regarding Aira services. Any recommendations adopted will
be sent via a letter of recommendation.
There was discussion on the floor that if a letter of recommendaton is sent to the
city council it would be to request review and consideration of Aira's proposal,
also to include background of the presentation. Suggested pilot sites to consider
would be the new civic center, library branches and the colleges serving Long
Beach.
A motion was made by Commissioner Calsita, seconded by
Commissioner Bruns, to approve recommendation. The motion
carried by the following vote:

9. 19-026CA Recommendation to elect officers to the CACoD executive board for
the July 2019 to June 2020 term, including chair, vice chair and
secretary.
For the 2019/2020 term, the commission elected Commissioner Diamond as
secretary, Commissioner Bruns as vice-chair and Commissioner McClain as
chair.
A motion was made by Commissioner Karadjov, seconded by
Commissioner Calsita, to approve recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:

STAFF REPORT
Staff laision Heather Blackmun reported the following:
--blue line has re-opened from downtown Long Beach to the Compton station
--new civic center would be celebrating it's public grand opening on Monday, July 29th
--City's Access Request Program had just about hit its cap for FY19
--City continues to build new curb ramps and sidewalks
--the draft transition plan has been handed over to plaintiff's attorneys for review
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Commissioner Karadjov reported that he visited with Congressman Lowenthal at his Washington
D.C. office and discussed various topics specific to the disability community.
