At 9:05 a.m., Commissioner Finney, called the meeting to order.

Commissioner Valencia led the flag salute.
READING OF MISSION STATEMENT
Commissioner Smith read the mission statement.
Advocate for new thinking and science on aging for the culturally diverse population of Older adults in
Long Beach and broaden knowledge in the areas of education, safety, housing, health, transportation,
technology and the quality of life.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Recommendation to approve the minutes for the meeting held May 8, 2019.
A motion was made by Commissioner Smith, seconded by
Commissioner Easter, to approve the the minutes for the
meeting held May 8, 2019. The motion carried by the following

GUEST SPEAKER
Mercedes Perezchica, MPH, Aging Services Program Manager, City of Long Beach Department
of Health & Human Services discussed the Long Beach Age-Friendly Strategic Planning process.
STAFF REPORT
Ted Stevens, Recreation Superintendent presented the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory
Commission a draft of the SCAC brochure for approval.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Community Relations - Commissioners Darnauer and Smith - NONE
B. Crime Prevention and Safety - Commissioners Carter and Finney - NONE
C. Health - Commissioners Sedillo, Tushnet, and Yamanaka
Commissioner Sedillo reported on Nursing Home abuse.
D. Housing - Commissioners Sedillo, Easter, and Carter
Commissioner Sedillo reported on the Beacon Housing and how the housing budget was
overlooked in Sacramento.
E. Legislation - Commissioners Tushnet and Yamanaka
Commissioner Finney reported for Commissioner Tushnet a list of initiatives pending in
Sacramento that can affect older adults.
F. Technology - Commissioner Finney - NONE
G. Transportation - Commissioners Darnauer, Easter, and Smith - NONE
NEW BUSINESS
Commissioner Finney discussed the roles and duties of Standing Committees. Commissioners
were given a handout with the explanation of each standing committee. They will discuss and
decide who will be on each committee when the meeting reconvenes in July.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:
Patron Stockley presented a homeless issue that is taking place in her alley and made a
recommendation for the Mayor, regarding Senior volunteerism based on professional expertise.
Supervisor Eggers reported on the Quality Of Life Meeting that she attended in June.
NEXT MEETING
The General meeting of the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held July 10, 2019 at 9:00
am, at Long Beach Senior Center located at 1150 E. 4th Street - Room #202, Long Beach 90802.

At 10:28 a.m., Commissioner Finney adjourned the meeting.

Opportunity is given to those members of the public who would like to address the
Senior Citizen Advisory Commission on non-agenda items. Each speaker is limited to
three minutes. The Brown Act prohibits Commissioners from responding to comments
on non-agenda items.
