Suspension Hearing 04-S-1617 Minutes of March 8 & 15, 2017 was held due to lack of a quorum present from the March 8 & 15, 2017 hearing to take action. This CS-Agenda was held to next Civil Service Commission meeting on June 7, 2017. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 3 - Charles Hicks, Rick McGilton-McGlamery and Carolyn M. John Harris/Water Utility Supervisor/Water (27 yrs., 3 mos.) Carol Witt/Business Systems Specialist IV/Technology & Innovation (15 yrs., 8 mos.) William Burns/Police Sergeant/Police (29 yrs., 6 mos.) On behalf of the Commission, the Secretary presented a Certificate of Appreciation to John Harris in recognition of 27 years of dedicated service to the citizens and City of Long Beach. Representatives from the Water Department were present and spoke on his behalf. The Commission congratulated Mr. Harris on his retirement. Smith Watts Absent: 2 - Robin Perry and Phyllis Arias Page 6 of 9 CITY OF LONG BEACH WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, 2017 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION 333 W.OCEAN BLVD., 7TH FLOOR MINUTES CIVIL SERVICE BOARD ROOM, 8:00 AM MANAGERS’ REPORT Recruitment & Selection Special Projects Administration Support Services Executive Director On behalf of Ms. Slaten, Ms. McDonald introduced and welcomed Maria Macias, Personnel Assistant to the Civil Service Department. Ms. Macias transferred from Human Resources. The Commission welcomed Ms. Macias. Ms. McDonald said she is partnering with Human Resources and working on an online requisition in Neogov. Ms. McDonald informed the commission, the Rules and Regulations committee met last week. Ms. McDonald informed the Commission she met with Harbor, Human Resources and IAM regarding the Project Budget Analyst classification specification. Mr. Pfingsthorn informed the Commission, Civil Service received a request from City Manager’s Office for additional information regarding Civil Service new budget items for FY18. Mr. Pfingsthorn will keep the Commission posted of the different budget deadlines. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood welcomed Ms. Macias. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood thanked Commissioner Perry for his assistance with the Executive Program for Leadership Long Beach. She also thanked Ms. McDonald for covering afternoon meetings while she facilitated the Executive Program for Leadership Long Beach. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Ms. Taylor-Sherwood provided an update on “experience credit.” Ms. Taylor-Sherwood also provided an update of the recommendations for streamlining agenda items and possibly moving some of these agenda items to the Consent Calendar. She will present her recommendations to the Commission once she gathers all needed information. He requested a representative from The LGBTG Center be invited to provide information on this topic to City Mayor, Councilmembers, Department Directors, Administrative Officers, Civil Service staff and city employees. COMMENTS FROM PUBLIC – The Civil Service Commission will hear from members of the public on matters within the Commission’s jurisdiction.
