Deputy Chief Beckman of the Long Beach Police Department was also present to answer the Commission’s questions. OCEAN BLVD., 7TH FLOOR MINUTES CIVIL SERVICE BOARD ROOM, 8:00 AM MANAGERS’ REPORT Recruitment & Selection Special Projects Administration Support Services Executive Director Recruitment and Selection: Ms. Slaten thanked John Keisler, Economic & Property Development Director for providing Pacific Gateway location for testing purposes. Ms. Slaten informed the commission that the protest policy was updated. Ms. Slaten informed the Commission the protest policy will be attached to the exam schedule notification to the applicants. This will give the applicants an opportunity to read the protest policy before and after their examination regarding updated protest policy. Ms. Slaten informed the Commission that last week, she partnered with Long Beach Unified School District at the career fair held at California State University, Long Beach. Ms. Slaten said she provided an insight to 7th grade students regarding job opportunities available with the City of Long Beach. Ms. Slaten informed the Commission, that Mr. Espinoza attended an event hosted by Goodwill for career development for veterans. Mr. Espinoza provided job opportunities information. Ms. Slaten also updated the Commission regarding upcoming recruitments. Ms. Slaten informed the Commission of the DOC EOC training received by the Managers and the Executive Director of Civil Service. Special Projects: Ms. McDonald informed the Commission that the Customer Service Representative job analysis was closed on May 24. She said she will follow up with the Subject Matter Experts regarding the evaluations received from candidates. Ms. McDonald informed the Commission that she and Ms. Taylor-Sherwood demonstrated Performance Evaluation feature in NEOGOV. Ms. McDonald informed the Commission that she is working on frequently asked questions (Q&A) page that will be posted on the intranet and internet. Ms. McDonald thanked Keion Bryant and Sharon Hamilton of Civil Service for working on this project. Ms. McDonald updated the Commission regarding the Summer Internship program facilitated by the Harbor Department. The Summer Interns will begin at the end of June. OCEAN BLVD., 7TH FLOOR MINUTES CIVIL SERVICE BOARD ROOM, 8:00 AM Ms. McDonald thanked the Commission for approving the Project Budget Analyst classification. Commissioner Hicks asked if we have a list of job classification analysis on the different positions to see if we are still up-to-date on what the position does and what are the job expectations. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood said she is working on where she will be address such issues. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood said she will present to the Commission her findings after she completes the project. Administrative Support Services: Administrative Officer, Robert Pfingsthorn informed the Commission that Civil Service Department anticipates to hear from the City Manager’s Office regarding Fiscal Year 2018 Budget. Executive Director: Thanked Executive Assistant regarding her contribution toward the “experience credit project”. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood informed the Commission that she will be presenting at several upcoming events such as the Washington Middle School event, a Harbor event and the Lean-in Long Beach event. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood informed the Commission, Civil Services will be hosting a presentation on Non-Binary Gender Identities by Porter Gilberg, Executive Director, The LBGTQ Center in the next Civil Service Commission meeting on June 21, 2017. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood informed the Commission, she has been researching different ways of examinations. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Ms. Taylor-Sherwood informed the Commission, she has been working on the project of Staff Reports Recommendation to streamline agenda items. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood will present her research, along with recommendations on the next Civil Service Commission meeting. Mr. Anderson stated that could be an option. COMMENTS FROM PUBLIC – The Civil Service Commission will hear from members of the public on matters within the Commission’s jurisdiction. Ms. Lewis thanked the Commission for approving Project Budget Analyst classification. Ms. Lewis introduced Sean Gamette, the newly appointed Managing Director for the Harbor Department. Ms. Lewis shared with the Commission that Mr. Gamette has promoted from Senior Program Manager up to the current position as the Managing Director. Mr. Gamette thanked Civil Service for its hard work in creating the Project Budget Analyst classification and thanked the Commission for approving it. On behalf of the Commission, Commissioner Perry told Mr. Gamette he was very impressed with Mr. Gamette and how hard he worked to moved up within the city. Commissioner Perry suggested that Civil Service meet with Mr. Gamette to highlight his story.
