OCEAN BLVD. 7TH FLOOR MINUTES CIVIL SERVICE BOARD ROOM, 8:00 AM MANAGERS’ REPORT Recruitment & Selection Special Projects Administration Support Services Executive Director Recruitment & Selection Ms. Slaten informed the Commission regarding changes that have been made to job bulletins posted by Civil Service Department to phase out the current bulletin templates. Ms. Slaten invited the departments to contact her with questions and concerns. Ms. Slaten updated the Commission regarding the upcoming examinations. Ms. Slaten provided information regarding exams held during the past few weeks. Special Projects: Ms. McDonald informed the Commission regarding the New Online Hiring Center (OHC) demonstrations conducted to train other city departments. Ms. McDonald mentioned that she has sent a survey to collect data from participants to see what further training can be held to enhance the understanding of the employees on new NEOGOV OHC features. Ms. McDonald introduced the High School Interns to the Commission. The interns shared some of their work experience obtained at the Civil Service Department. The Commissioners congratulated the interns and welcomed them to the Civil Service Department. Ms. McDonald thanked Keion Bryant for his great customer service. Administration Support Services Mr. Robert Pfingsthorn thanked Ms. McDonald for training the Administration Support Division on new NEOGOV OHC features. Executive Director The Executive Director congratulated and acknowledged Stacey Lewis on her new position as Director, Human Resources of the Harbor Department. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood also thanked Ms. McDonald and Ms. Slaten for their participation and contribution in the collaborative discussion on “Managing Civil Service Process” held at the Harbor Department. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood thanked Ms. McDonald for her Page 7 of 9 CITY OF LONG BEACH WEDNESDAY, JULY 5, 2017 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION 333 W. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood mentioned that some of the questions and answers discussed at the event will be uploaded on the Civil Service intranet. On behalf of the Harbor Department, Ms. Lewis thanked Ms. McDonald, Ms. Slaten and Ms. Taylor-Sherwood for their participation and training at the “Managing Civil Service Process.” Ms. Lewis stated that as a second phase to the training, they are scheduling a performance appraisal program for the employees. Ms. Lewis also thanked Ms. Taylor-Sherwood for her participation as an advisor at the Women’s Leadership Board Meeting. UNFINISHED BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS Commissioner Perry suggested the idea of moving “Comments from the Public” agenda item from the bottom to the top of the agenda. Commissioner Perry mentioned that moving the agenda item to the top allows the public to comment before the Commissioners make a motion on the agenda items. After discussion, it was agreed to place “Comments from the Public” to the top and at the end of the agenda. COMMENTS FROM PUBLIC – The Civil Service Commission will hear from members of the public on matters within the Commission’s jurisdiction. Mr. Davila of the Development Services Department introduced Michael Goldschmidt, the new Administrative Officer of the Development Services Department.
