OCEAN BLVD. 7TH FLOOR MINUTES CIVIL SERVICE BOARD ROOM, 8:00 AM 7. 17-150CS RECOMMENDATION FOR PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT - Christopher J. Gonzales, Marine Safety Sergeant Communication from Mariel Sipman, Administrative Officer, Fire Department Secretary briefed the Commission regarding this request. Captain Abel from Fire Department was present to answer Commission’s questions. Commissioner Arias asked whether there might be another process for meeting the summer needs of the department, or whether making provisional appointments every summer was the only way to handle the situation. Captain Able stated that since these appointments are necessary every summer, the department is considering a way on how the Marine Safety Sergeants can continue to work as Supervisors. Commissioner Arias asked whether these provisional appointments have any impact on our discussion of how we count supervisory experience credit. Ms. Taylor-Sherwood stated that matter has been taken into consideration. A motion was made by Commissioner McGilton-McGlamery, seconded by Commissioner Hicks, to approve recommendation. OCEAN BLVD. 7TH FLOOR MINUTES CIVIL SERVICE BOARD ROOM, 8:00 AM MANAGERS’ REPORT Recruitment & Selection Special Projects Administration Support Services Executive Director Recruitment & Selection: On behalf of Ms. Slaten, Sheree Valdoria informed that the Analysts are working on several recruitment events in the summer. Ms. Valdoria informed that a Police Recruit Workshop will be held on July 19, 2017 at the Police Academy at 6:00 p.m. This workshop will be focused on different aspects of the recruitment for Police Recruit examination. Ms. Valdoria stated that the last component for Assistant Administrative Analyst exam will be completed by next week. Ms. Valdoria thanked Water Department as well as Fire Department for their assistance in conducting the examinations. On behalf of the Recruitment Selection Division, Ms. Valdoria thanked Robert Pfingsthorn for his guidance and support extended throughout the years. Special Projects: Ms. McDonald introduced Summer High School Interns for a presentation. The interns demonstrated the progress of their current project of making the City of Long Beach classified job descriptions and job classification specifications more user friendly. The Commissioners appreciated and thanked the endeavors of the interns. Executive Director: The Executive Director thanked Ms. McDonald for her mentoring and technical skills.
