CALL TO ORDER
At 2:32 p.m., Chairman Turpin called the meeting to order via teleconference.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. 21-015MA Recommendation to approve the Marine Advisory Commission minutes
for the meeting held on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
A motion was made by Vice Chair Mayes, seconded by
Commissioner Lambe, to approve recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:
Yes: 9 - Nathaniel Brown, Camille Daniels, Colin Kelly, Elizabeth
Lambe, Bruce Mac Rae, Theresa Marino, Jo Murray, Tom

NEW BUSINESS
2. 21-016MA Recommendation to receive and file a presentation on The Hydraulic
Pump Pilot Study - Equipment Test, Peninsula Beach.
Steve Cappellino, Anchor QEA presented a Peninsula Beach Sand
Management Equipment Test Update. The presentation included:

LBFD - Marine Safety/Lifeguards
Omar Naranjo, Safety Captain, LBFD/Lifeguards reviewed the following:
· Junior Lifeguard program - 782 Participants
· Scholarship programs.
· Power boat partially sunk this morning. Towed to Davies launch ramp.

LBPD - Marine Patrol Unit
James Smigla, Sergeant, LBPD/Marine Patrol reviewed the following:
· Applicant selection process.
· New lifeguard tower being dedicated today.
· Basins 2 & 3 parking issues.
· An Officer assisted/performed CPR on a homeless person who became
unconscious. Working with the Health Department.
Chairman Turpin recommended a Proclamation for the Officer.
Commissioner Mac Rae will contact CD3 regarding the Proclamation
request.
Beach Maintenance
Cory Forrester, Superintendent, Beach Maintenance, reviewed the
following:
· Beaches clean of debris.
· Surf 2’ - 3’
· Adding berms to inner bay to protect for high tides.
· Storm drains have been cleared.
· King tide review.

Cory Forrester, Superintendent, Beach Maintenance, provided a brief
update on Station 31 and the work being conducted on Mole Road on June
15 - 17, 2021.
Marine Operations
Todd Leland, Superintendent, Marine Operations, reviewed the following:
· 93% Slip occupancy rate.
· Yacht clubs are opening.
· Special events calendar - July 3rd Big Bang.
· Reviewed the chosen Beach Concession vendors who were approved
by Council.
· Colorado Lagoon - Tree update

Chairman Turpin commented all items were reviewed at today’s meeting.
TIDELANDS CAPITAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE
Colin Kelly - Chair
Commissioner Kelly provided an update on Alamitos Bay, Granada and Junipero Beach
Concessions. Belmont Pier Visioning, Davies Launch ramp, and the Colorado Lagoon
project were reviewed.
Commissioner Marino inquired on the Ad Hoc committee formed to review the study of the
Long Beach Safe Boating and Fair Alliance/ Army Corp of Engineers.
Commissioner Mac Rae commented the Ad Hoc Committee will provide an update at the next
Marine Advisory Commission meeting.
