The Parks and recreation Commission meeting was called to order by Presdient Ron
Antonette at 9:05 a.m., at the El Dorado Park West, Sr. Center Library. Director Marie
Knight took roll call and confirmed a quorum.

Commissioner Ursua, to approve recommendation. The motion
carried by the following vote:

Commissioner Morales, to approve recommendation with the
exception of, #4660, United Jr. Olympic Archery, #5719, Long
Beach Community Band and #5726, Pasadena Sr. Center, for
separate discussion. The motion carried by the following vote:
Yes: 7 - Stella Ursua, Julie Heggeness, Margo Morales, Ron Sievers,
David Zanatta, Benjamin Alan Goldberg and Ron Antonette
President Antonette asked for a friendly amendment to the motion to also pull #5718,
Success in Challenges, for futher discussion. Vice President Goldberg accepted the
amendment and it was seconded by Commissioner Morales.
Fee Waiver #5718, Success in Challenges, was discussed.

carried with Commissioner Morales recused herself from the vote due to a potential conflict
of interest.
3. 16-026PR Approve and authorize the Director of Parks, Recreation and
Marine to issue standard "Permits for the Operation of a Picnic
Service Concession": at El Dorado Regional Park, El Dorado Park
and Recreation Park, with picnic catering providers, for a term of
three and one-half years from June 1, 2016 through December 31,
2019, with one, three-year renewal option at the discretion of the
Director. (Council Districts 3 & 5)

corporation, and/or its agents, to make various improvements, and to
accept a donation of planning, labor and materials for a period of

PUBLIC COMMENT: IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO ADJOURNMENT

minutes unless extended by the Parks and Recreation Commission. The Brown Act
prohibits the Commission from responding to public comments on non-agenda items.

Alexis Morero spoke regarding Stearns Park and the excellent work on behalf of PRM
Maintenance. She also spoke regarding the musical theater group that she has and asked
if PRM could assist in recruitment of teens into her program.
Kirk Davis spoke on behalf of the Downtown Lions Club and an upcoming event.

STAFF COMMENTS:
Gladys Kaiser spoke regarding upcoming 100 Days of Summer campaign and the Summer
kick-off concert to be held at Marine Stadium on Friday, May 27th.
Valerie Davis stated there would also be a Meet and Greet for Marie Knight at the Summer
kick - off concert.
Hurley Owens spoke regarding testing of pesticides and the testing being conducted. He
provided information regarding the fencing being installed in parks to rehabilitate our soccer
fields, as well as the amount of work orders processed through Maintenance.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS:
Commissioner Sievers spoke regarding the use of Round Up and the need for a serious
discussion about it's application.
Commissioner Ursua thanked all who attended the Green Prize Festival. Veronica Ortega
and her staff were wonderful! The community was thrilled with the event. The next event
will be in April 2017, most likely in North Long Beach.
Commissioner Zanatta congratulated Commissioner Ursua on the success of the Green
Prize Festival.

The next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting will be held on Thursday, June 16,
2016, at the El Dorado Park West Community Center, Senior Center Library located at
