CALL TO ORDER
The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was called to order by President Ron
Antonette at 9:03 a.m., at the El Dorado West, Sr. Center Library. Director Marie KNight
took roll call and confirmed a quorum.

A motion was made by Vice President Goldberg and seconded by Commissioner Ursua to

Gladys Kaiser introduced recently promoted employees, Susan Edinger, Erin Kellogg,
Naturalist and Gabriel Cruz, Field Permits.
Additionally, Hurley Owens recognized Ken Roberts on his permanent appointment to
Maintenance Operations Bureau Superintendent of Facilities.

Meeting minutes of March 17, 2016.
Commissioner Morales abstained from the vote due to her excused absence at
the March 17, 2016 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
A motion was made by Vice President Goldberg, seconded by
Commissioner Ursua, to approve recommendation. The motion
carried by the following vote:

documents necessary to re-issue a Use Permit to LARPBO: Los Angeles
Responsible Pit Bull Owners, dba LARPBO Dog Training for the
continued provision of on-leash dog training/handling classes
(commercial recreation) at Stearns Champions Park for a term of three
years, with one, two-year renewal option, at the discretion of the Director
or his designee beginning April 12, 2016. (District 4)

Chair Ursua stated the committee met the previous week to discuss topics to bring to the
committee.

reviewed.

Chair Sievers stated the committee met after the Parks and Recreation Commission
meeting on March 17, 2016.

Opportunity is given to those members of the public who would like to address the Parks
and Recreation Commission on non-agenda items. Each speaker is limited to three
minutes unless extended by the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Commissioner Zanatta introduced St. Anthony student, Diana Palma. Ms. Palmer
presented her findings in a global research study who presented her findings of an
experiment of the Marine life to establish growth rates and the impact of water temperatures
in Long Beach.

Gladys Kaiser reported on day camp registration and Earth Day activities
Director Knight spoke.
Valerie Davis asked commissioners to forward any changes in schedules for subcommittee
meetings to her so she can ensure staff assigned to the sub-committee have the meetings
on their calendars and reserve appropriate conference rooms.

Commissioner Ursua relayed information on the Green Event at Admiral Kidd Park on April
30, 2016.
Commissioner Zanatta thanked the Commission and Staff for allowing Ms. Palma to make
her presentation.
Vice President Goldberg encouraged Commissioners to attend the upcoming Mayor's Cup
Golf Tournament, as well as the upcoming baseball game at Blair Field between CSULB
and San Jose.
NEXT MEETING
The next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting will be held on Thursday, May 19,
2016, at the El Dorado Park West Community Center, Senior Center Library located at
2800 N. Studebaker Road, Long Beach, CA 90815.
