At 9:10 a.m., Commissioner Finney, called the meeting to order.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Darnauer led the flag salute.
READING OF MISSION STATEMENT
Commissioner Sedillo read the mission statement.
1 APPROVAL OF MNUTES
A motion was made by Commissioner Darnauer, seconded by
Commissioner Prager, to approve the recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:
Yes: 7 - Winifred Carter, Don Darnauer, Ronald Eomurian, Paula
Prager, Mary Alice Sedillo, Naida Tushnet and Robert Finney
Excused: 1 - Jo Prabhu
GUEST SPEAKER
Jordan Wynne, Long Beach Tenant Housing Union informed and discussed the rent control
measure “Long Beach Rent Control Ordinance".

STAFF REPORT
Recreation Superintendent, Lori Jarmacz announced Commissioner Naida Tushnet recieved a Go Long
Beach Award. She was honorered for doing incredible things in the community.
Recreation Superintendent, Lori Jarmacz introduced Chavez Park Supervisor, Kameron Talavera and
Chavez Park Senior Citizen Coordinator, Maui Castillo.
Recreation Superintendent, Lori Jarmacz announced Tiffany Cantrell-Warren, Karen Doolittle, and
Mercedes Perezchica with the Long Beach Department of Health & Human Services will be guest
speakers in April.
Recreation Superintendent, Lori Jarmacz announced SCAN Health Plan, The City of Long Beach and
Long Beach State University and will feature City Leaders discussing exciting new developments in aging
services on Tuesday, May 1st from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the El Dorado Park West Community
Center in Long Beach.

Commissioner Darnauer reported that he attended the Paratransit meeting and
expressed senior limitations.

Commissioners discussed the Long Beach Senior Advisor Commission Brochure.
COMMISSIONER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Cara is sponsoring a SSC, Medicare and Medicaid event at the Steel Workers Hall located at 1200 East
220th Street in Carson on March 24, 2018 from 1 pm to 3 pm and invited everyone to attend.
Senior Expo will be held on March 31, 2018 at the Best Western Golden Sails Hotel in Long Beach.

PUBLIC COMMENT
Patron, Roberto Lopez asked the Senior Commission to talk to council and freeze rent until
Novembers ballot.
Patron, Noble expressed his opinion how the ripple effect of housing will effect small businesses in
the community.
Gray Panthers representative, Ms. Reside invited everyone to attend their meeting at the Long
Beach Senior Center on April 7, 2018 regarding land use.

The General meeting of the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held April 18, 2018 at 9:00
am, at Long Beach Senior Center located at 1150 E. 4th Street - Room #202, Long Beach 90802.

Senior Citizen Advisory Commission on non-agenda items. Each speaker is limited to
three minutes. The Brown Act prohibits Commissioners from responding to comments
on non-agenda items.
