READING OF MISSION STATEMENT
Commissioner Tushnet read the mission statement.
Advocate for new thinking and science on aging for the
culturally diverse population of Older adults in Long Beach and
broaden knowledge in the areas of education, safety, housing,
health, transportation, technology and the quality and life.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Recommendation to approve the minutes for the meeting held October 17, 2018.
Suggested Action: Approve recommendation 18-008SRA motion
was made by Commissioner Tushnet, seconded by
Commissioner Easter, to approve the recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:

GUEST SPEAKER
Joseph F. Prevratil, President and CEO, Archstone Foundation discussed information regarding
the grant making organization whose mission is to contribute toward the preparation of society in
meeting the needs of an aging population.
STAFF REPORT
Gladys Kaiser, CRS Manager announced Yosh Yamanaka was appointed to the LBSCAC and will start in January.
Gladys Kaiser, CRS Manager announced Parks, Recreation and Marine are working on a strategic plan.
Gladys Kaiser, CRS Manager announced Bixby Park rennovations are almost completed and will be enhancing
programs.
Gladys Kaiser, CRS Manager distributed a 2018 Winter Shelter program list.

B. Crime Prevention and Safety - Commissioner Carter -
Commissioner Carter reported about the mass shooting at a bar in Thousand Oaks.
C. Health - Commissioner Sedillo -
Commissioner Sedillo reported on the Retina, a Macular degeneration that can cause vision
loss.
D. Housing - Commissioners Sedillo, Tushnet, and Darnauer -
Commissioner Sedillo reported on a Winter shelter in North Long Beach and how the Library will
be demolished to make way for affordable housing.
E. Legislation - Commissioners Tushnet and Finney - NONE
F. Technology - Commissioner Finney - NONE
G. Transportation - Commissioner Darnauer - NONE
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Commissioners revised, voted and passed the new By-laws.
NEW BUSINESS
Commissioners elected Robert Finney to remain the Chair and for Don Darnauer to be the Vice
Chair for the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Patron, Karen Reside expressed her opinion of the Winter Shelter Housing and Rent Control.

The General meeting of the Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held February 13, 2019 at
9:00 am, at Long Beach Senior Center located at 1150 E. 4th Street - Room #202, Long Beach

Opportunity is given to those members of the public who would like to address the
Senior Citizen Advisory Commission on non-agenda items. Each speaker is limited to
three minutes. The Brown Act prohibits Commissioners from responding to comments
on non-agenda items.
