At 9:09 a.m., Commissioner Finney called the meeting to order.

Commissioner Darnauer led the flag salute.
READING OF MISSION STATEMENT
Commissioner Yamanaka read the mission statement.
Advocate for new thinking and science on aging for the
culturally diverse population of Older adults in Long Beach and
broaden knowledge in the areas of education, safety, housing,
health, transportation, technology and the quality of life.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Commissioner Smith, seconded by
Commissioner Tushnet, to approve recommendation. The
motion carried by the following vote:

GUEST SPEAKER
Gerardo Mouet, Long Beach Parks Recreation and Marine Director gave an update on Senior
Programs and presented the Department plan for allocating the City Council approved $100,000
in one-time funds for Senior programming. He also announced that this plan would be presented to
the City Council on April 9th at the budget oversight committee meeting.
Commissioner Tushnet moved that the Senior Commission recommend and support the
Parks, Recreation and Marine plan for allocated funds for Senior Programs that were as
outlined by Director Mouet in his presentation. Additionally, the commission also
recommends that the funds be made structural in the Parks, Recreation and Marine
budget for next year. This item was approved and passed unanimously by Voice Vote.
Heather Blackmun, Citywide Accessibility Coordinator, introduced Belinda Banjer and she gave a
presentation on the ADA Self-Evaluation summary of findings for Public Outreach.
STAFF REPORT
Ted Stevens, Recreation Superintendent introduced himself, and reported he had a meeting with
Chairperson Finney and Commissioner Tushnet and is excited about working closely with the
committee.
Commissioner Finney then thanked, Gladys Kaiser, CRS Manager for sitting in with the Long
Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Committee for the last couple of months.

Commissioner Darnauer announced he was invited to be a member of the "City Transportation
Work Group", on behalf of the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission. They will be
meeting monthly for the next 5 months.
Commissioner Darnauer also announced that the Long Beach transit will conduct a Public Forum
at 245 E. 3rd Street, March 26th at 6 pm on the Passport Bus Route expansion downtown.
NEW BUSINESS
Elect 2019 Vice chair for the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission.
A motion was made that Commissioner Tushnet be the Vice
Chair. Motion passed by Voice Vote
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Two members of the public addressed the commission:
Karen Reside, Long Beach Gray Panther representative.
Damaris Pelayo, St. Mary Medical representative.
