CALL TO ORDER
At 2:30 pm, Chairman Thornburg called the meeting to order at the Long Beach Yacht Club.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. 19-008MA Recommendation to approve the Marine Advisory Commission minutes
for the meeting held on Thursday, February 14, 2019.
A motion was made by Commissioner Mayes, seconded by
Commissioner Kelly, to approve recommendation. The motion
carried by the following vote:
Yes: 7 - Camille Daniels, Colin Kelly, Ted Kuhn, Elizabeth Lambe,
Tom Mayes, Mark Turpin and David Thornburg
Absent: 1 - Theresa Marino
NEW BUSINESS
2. 19-009MA Recommendation to receive supporting documentation into the record,
conclude the public hearing, consider the Appeal from Art
Bracamontes; and deny the Appeal and uphold the Marine Bureau's
decision to terminate Permit No. 1346108 for violation of the Long
Beach Marina Rules and Regulations. (District 3)

documentation to terminate Permit No. 1346108.
Mr. Art Bracamontes presented his appeal to the Marine Advisory
Commission.

Chairman Thornburg reviewed the information required to complete the annual report.

Marine Maintenance
Eric Woodson, Superintendent, Marine Maintenance gave the following brief

update:
· Trash enclosures have been completed.
· Preventative maintenance is being conducting throughout the
marinas.
Beach Maintenance
Cory Forrester, Superintendent, Beach Maintenance gave the following
update:
· Reviewed the large amount of debris collected from LA County from
the latest storms.
· New landscape by the Bayshore library.
· Berms are holding up.
· Staff vacancies were reviewed.

Guest Jim Corbin spoke on the need for more trash receptacles near
LaVerne and Claremont parking lot.

LBFD- Marine Safety/Lifeguards Update
Scott Dixon, Lifeguard Captain, gave the following brief update:
· Swift water rescue teams and procedures.
· Dive team is in training.
· Reviewed “See Something, Say Something”.
LBPD- Marine Patrol Unit Update
Steven Covarubias, Special Services Officer, gave the following brief update:
· Gearing up for Grand Prix.
· Sergeant Miranda is temporarily in charge of Marine Patrol.

· Superintendent, Marine Operations, job bulletin.
Commissioner Kelly spoke on Concessions and the upcoming Olympics.

MARINE & BEACH MAINTENANCE / OPERATIONS COMMITTEE

Commissioner Mayes mentioned everything was covered in today’s meeting from Marine and
Beach Maintenance.
Commissioner Mayes inquired about dry boat storage and the traffic pattern on Marina Drive.
Elvira Hallinan provided an update on dry boat storage location, and Marina Drive.
Guest Melinda Cotton spoke on nesting in the trees on Marina Drive.

PUBLIC COMMENT
Guest Bob Vatz spoke of his concerns on the traffic and parking with the new 2nd and PCH
development.
Guest Michael Stewart spoke on the parking lot meters.
Guest Melinda Cotton spoke on her concern regarding the Marina Drive traffic and redesign.
Guest Jim Corbett, Kiteboarder, spoke on his concerns with the Jr. Lifeguards and
Kiteboarders utilizing the same area and the concentration of recreational use in this area
near the Lollipop. A diagram was presented.
Guest Dan Corbett, Kiteboarder, spoke and offered a handout reviewing the concentration of
recreational use of the area designated for Kiteboarders and in the near future with Jr.
Lifeguards. Concerns are with overcrowding in a small area.
Guest Chris Macy reviewed the beach cleanup efforts with the LB Sea Base.
