At 9:12 a.m., Commissioner Finney, called the meeting to order.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Darnauer led the flag salute.
READING OF MISSION STATEMENT
Advocate for new thinking and science on aging for the culturally diverse population of Older adults
in Long Beach and broaden knowledge in the areas of education, safety, housing, health,
transportation, technology and the quality of life.
NEW APPOINTMENT
Commissioner Finney intorduced and welcomed the new Commissioner, Viola Sellers to the Long
Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Recommendation to approve the minutes for the meeting held November 13, 2019.
November 13, 2019 Minutes were approved.

GUEST SPEAKER
Andrew Chang with the City Of Long Beach Development Services reported on the inclusionary
housing project.
STAFF REPORT
Terri Olson-Eggers, Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine Community Services Supervisor
reported on the UTR Program and upcoming events that will be held at the Long Beach Senior
Center.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Community Relations - Commissioners Darnauer and Smith - Chair Darnauer
Commissioner Darnauer attended the Mayors Reception for Commissioners along with Commissioners Sedillo,
Finney, Valecia, Sellers on December 9, 2019. He also reported that Willmore Baking Company has started their
senior program at Cesar Chavez.
B. Crime Prevention and Safety - Commissioners Carter and Valencia - Chair Carter
Commissioner Carter reported on an article that a New Task Force took back more than 940 firearms off the streets
in 2019.
C. Health - Commissioners Sedillo, Valencia and Easter - Chair Valencia- NONE
D. Housing - Commissioners Sedillo, Tushnet, and Carter - Chair Sedillo
Commissioner Sedillo reported on container living.
E. Legislation - Commissioners Finney, Tushnet and Valencia - Chair Tushnet
Commissioner Tushnet reported on Proposition 13,The California Master Plan for Aging and the Local change in the
Tenant relocation ordinance.
F. Technology - Commissioner and Chair Finney - NONE
G. Transportation - Commissioners Darnauer, Smith, and Easter - Chair Smith
Commissioner Smith reported that he attended the Quarterly Paratransit Meeting along with Commissioner Darnauer
and Metro's Aging & Disability Transportation forum at Union Station, and the Long Beach Elder Abuse Prevention
Task Force
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Gray Panther representative, Karen Reside shared their Special Events Calendar and talked about their
Holiday Party.

NEXT MEETING
The next General meeting of the Long Beach Senior Citizen Advisory Commission will be held
January 15, 2020.
The meeting will be held at the Silverado Senior Center 1545 W. 31st Street. Long Beach, 90810

At 10:37 a.m., Commissioner Finney adjourned the meeting.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Opportunity is given to those members of the public who would like to address the
Senior Citizen Advisory Commission on non-agenda items. Each speaker is limited to
three minutes. The Brown Act prohibits Commissioners from responding to comments
on non-agenda items.
