NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING ORGANIZATION: BOARD OF PARKS DATE: Wednesday, March 27, 2019 TIME: 6:00 PM LOCATION: Mayor’s Reception Room City Hall, 375 Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA 2nd Floor Meeting called to order at 6:00 PM Board Members present: John Linnehan, Chairman- Present Peter Finnegan, Vice-Chairman- Present Thomas Caunter- Present Ryan Rourke- Present ITEM 1: CITY COUNCIL At the Regular meeting of the City Council held Tuesday March 19, 2019 the following Motion was read and referred to the Board of Parks. Motion: Motion by C. Kennedy, seconded by C. Mercier to add following request to have Manager and Law Department develop a policy to name and rename parks in the City to the motion at the Parks & Recreation SC to refer to Board of Parks the request to change name of Roberto Clemente Park to Palin Park. Adopted per Roll Call vote, 9 yeas. So voted C. Elliot’s view was the he proposed the name change to Palin Park five years ago. He stated that he helped the Roberto Clemente League name their baseball field Koumanzelis Roberto Clemente. He stated that the city needs to find green space for the Latino Community C. Nuon’s view was that the Cambodian Community have waited 20 years for this change. After hearing discussion and comments C. Nuon’s opinion is that the Latino Community should be present at the next City Counselor Meeting next Tuesday to represent Roberto Clemente Field. Several speakers of the Cambodian and Latino communities wanted to postpone the name change of the park and suggest some type of agreement between the both communities. John Linnehan, Chairman of the Board of Parks stated that both opinion of Latino and Cambodian communities and that they should come together with some type of agreement. Motion by Peter Finnegan to table the topic for further discussion to include the Cambodian and Latino Communities – as voted unanimous Item 2.
