Daisy Delgado - Scholarship Fundraiser Daisy is requesting to host a scholarship fundraiser in her son’s honor to raise funds for Greater Lowell Tech students for the second year in a row. The funds will go towards uniforms for the auto-tech students that the school doesn’t provide. Last year, they raised over $8,000. The event will include cooking and serving food, raffles, music, and a fire truck will come on site for children. This event is for the youth, so the fee has been reduced to $240.00. Approved Unanimously. 16. Wendy Jepson (Greater Lowell Road Runners) - 5K Road Race Wendy is the director of Berna’s Great Legs 5k. BGL 5K started in 1982 and is the second oldest women’s only 5k in the country. The race used to run out of Cawley Stadium when it first started, but for several years they were running out of the Reilly Elementary School. Due to participation growth, they are requesting to use Cawley Stadium again moving forward for their races. It’s 100% non-profit race and all proceeds will go to the House of Hope, which is a women’s only homeless shelter in Lowell. They also want to add a youth component to the race this year called the “little miss race”, which is for youth girls under the age of 7 to run one lap around the track and introduce them to running. He suggested the use of the Field Hockey Field instead, along with the turf field for their event. Orlando Aponte (The Ville Softball) - Softball League / Donations for Park Renovations Orlando is requesting the use of Harry Allen Field for softball tournaments. Orlando would like to raise money from those tournaments and donate it back towards renovations for Harry Allen Field, as it is a big part of their softball community. They have previously been able to raise funds and donate it back to the community of Lowell in numerous ways, especially towards House of Hope, LPD, LFD and PYO baseball. Shannon Cohan noted that Harry Allen Field will be renovated in 2025. Keith Rudy suggested instead of donating the money back to the park before renovations start next year, they should continue donating it to areas in the community, as the renovations will be done from State or Local funding sources already. 5/26/24 is no longer needed and can be removed from the request. Roberto Dei (CASE & City Manager's Offices) - Veteran's Event The City Manager & CASE Offices are requesting these (2) dates for a Veteran's Event. They will be using the track as a racecourse and are hoping to do a "touch a truck" segment at the park. They will need the parking lots for the public and use of the greenspace surrounding the Pavilion. Only the Pavilion, Track, and Gresco Baseball Field will be utilized for this event. They are requesting the other park areas as well to ensure no activities will be scheduled and create conflict.
