Geary City Clerk Regular Meeting Minutes Date: Mar 26, 2014 Time: 6:00 PM Location: City Council Chamber 375 Merrimack Street, 2nd Floor, Lowell, MA MAYOR’S BUSINESS 1. - MAYOR'S BUSINESS 2. 2014 / 227 - SPECIAL MEETING NOTICE Notice is hereby given, as required by Rule 6 of the City of Lowell City Council Rules, that the Lowell City Council will hold a Special Meeting of the Lowell City Council in the Council Chambers on Wednesday, March 26th at 6:00 PM. The purpose of which is to meet as the Committee of the Whole in order to conduct interviews with two of the six finalists for the position of City Manager of Lowell; the first beginning at 6:00 PM followed by the second beginning at or about 7:30 PM. The public is invited to attend. Roll Call 9 present (6:00 PM). M. Elliott presiding. Mayor Elliott opened meeting and read posted notice. C. Mercier requested moment of silence in darkened chamber for Anne M. Hovey along with other citizens who passed away during the week. M. Elliott also asked that we keep the Boston Firefighters in our thoughts and prayers as they are battling a 9 alarm fire. Ramirez I would like to thank the council for the opportunity to come here. Lowell is very special to me as it welcomed me and my family when we came here from Columbia. Lowell is where I attended school, married and raised my family. Lowell needs to be a safe city. I am prepared to roll up my sleeves to work with police, and the state to keep Lowell a safe city. Public Safety is critical backbone of our neighborhoods. Lowell also needs to be marketed. I believe I am qualified for the job. Each Councilor questioned Mr. Ramirez, starting with C. Samaras. Closing Statement - George A. Ramirez I have enormous respect for the job councilors do. Communication is key and we will do it together. I am a strong believer in communication. I am a hard worker and have a strong work ethic. I want to be a part of Lowell’s success. M. Elliott then asked for a 5 minute break before interviewing the next candidate Daniel M. Keyes. Roll call showed 9 present. M. Elliott welcomed Daniel M. Keyes. Opening Statement - Daniel M. Keyes It’s a great honor to be here. I have extensive experience in 40 B programs. I also have an open door policy with all my employees. I believe communication is the key to successful operation. I like to work as a team as employees are our greatest asset. I have been doing state and county local budgets for over 30 yrs. Each Councilor questioned Mr. Keyes, starting again with C. Samaras. Closing Statement - Daniel M. Keyes City of Lowell is a diverse community. I hope I can bring this city to greatness. I don’t have all the answers but I will get you honest answers. I would like to work for a better Lowell.
