The City of Lowell 375 Merrimack Street • Lowell, MA 01852 P: 978.446.7162 • F: 978.446.7089 www.Lowellma.gov Lowell Cultural Council Meeting Minutes July 26, 2022 Attending: Britton Boughner; Erin Duffey (Administrator); Stephanie Call; Beth Noel; Kshitij Karke (KK); Jerry Bisantz; Olu Ibrahim; Timmy Al-Muntafik (attending as a private citizen); Peter Crewe (Director of Cultural Affairs and Special Events) Absent: The meeting was called to order at 6:45 PM. 1. 6:46 - Logo: o Concerns about shrinking the logo down were the thought process behind removing the smaller symbols in the logo o We will discuss the logo on next month’s agenda 2. 6:51 - Mural Permits for review and signature: o Peter has been called over to the City Council meeting right now and will come by later o Mural permit rendering will be sent later o In case the content is offensive we don’t have to sign off on it o Erin will send the Mural ordinance out to the committee later o As a council, we could ask to be involved with the process 3. 7:09 - Treasurer discussion: o Olu can only be interim treasurer until August o Usually takes 1 day to plan the cutoff for our scoring, and working with the Auditor o Applications have been put in for the cultural council by 2 new members 4. 7:19 - Peter: o The first round of art of murals is coming up (ArtUp Lowell) o 3 signoffs to ensure the context of public acceptance and safety o 3 Murals are ready for review o Cultural Council approves of the mural o The way the ordinance is set up is not designed for the LCC to get involved more than approval, these murals are made on private property o 3 local artists were on the committee and any Lowell private citizen could have made submissions to present their work. The artists chosen had some connections to the Merrimack valley o Erin will send out the next renderings through email and will request someone to stop by and sign off after approval 5. 7:39 - General Grant Discussion: o Jerry got the Nancy Donahue Theater and another location, Jerry will put in writing for changing venue for the Latino film festival events o KK will get the funding priority data to be compiled Meeting adjourned at 7:47 PM.
