Students will miss three [3] days of school. Lodging, registration fee and transportation will be paid through BPA Chapter funds. The students will pay the $300 cost for the meals and any additional tours of their choice. The cost of the trip is approximately $1,500 and will be paid by the School Committee expense account. 22. 2016 / 150 Lowell High School Boys' and Girls' Track and Field Teams and coaches; Timothy Patterson and David Casey to travel to the Glenn D. Louks Games Track and Field Meet at White Plains High School in White Plains, New York on May 13th and 14th 2016 with one overnight stay and one school day. A $300.00 entry fees will be paid by the Athletic Department budget. All other expenses associated with the trip of approximately $1.800.00, will be shared by the Athletic Depa rtment, Friends of Lowell High School Track Committee, private donations and the student-athletes. Stoklosa Knowledge Bowl Competition 2016 The Spotlight on Excellence presentation on Wednesday, April 6th will feature the Wang School, champions of this year’s Kathryn P. Stoklosa Knowledge Bowl Competition as well as the teams for all participating schools in the 2016 Knowledge Bowl. The following is an outline of the presentation: 1. Carolyn Rocheleau, Coordinator for the 2016 competition, will provide a brief overview of this year’s competition and introduce the students and coaches. 2. A short video highlighting the competition will be viewed. 3. Matt Stahl, Principal of the Wang School, will introduce the Wang School coaches, Karen Cole and Jolane Roy, who will in turn introduce their students. 4. Students will share their memories and highlights of this year’s competition.  Kathryn P. Stoklosa Knowledge Bowl Competition 2016 Spotlight on Excellence The Knowledge Bowl was established in 1988 for the purpose of engaging students from all eight middle schools in a challenging academic competition. The Wang School has the honor of being this year’s Knowledge Bowl Champion. The coaches for this year’s winning team are Wang teachers: Karen Cole and Jolane Roy  Christian Chau Members of the Championship Team are:  Alison Forchoh  Bryan Garneau  George Gikas  Justice Laplante  Hannah Nangle  Nifemi Ogunseye  Arlene Tetteh- Lartey  Dennis Un  Billy Wolf This year’s second place winner was the Daley Middle School and third place went to the Stoklosa School. The Kathryn P. Stoklosa Knowledge Bowl is a competition that continues to evolve and become more exciting each year. This year’s Current Events Round tested students’ knowledge of items in the news locally, statewide, nationally and internationally. The Lowell School Committee has continued its support by not only allocating $20,000 for the expenses of conducting the Knowledge Bowl but by also attending and/or participating in the event. This year 80 students were on the official team rosters. Each team worked with 2 coaches and started preparing for this competition in November 2015. Up until the competition began, teams reviewed practice questions in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, the Arts and Current Events. Spotlight on Excellence Kathryn P. Frisch, School Business Administrator Date: April 1, 2016 Subject: Food Service Management Contract – Authorize RFP Background: The Contract with Aramark Educational Services, LLC will expire at the close of this fiscal year. Therefore a Request for Proposal (RFP) was developed to solicit proposals for a new one year contract with two, one year options for the operation and management of the district food service program. The RFP was written in conformance with applicable statutes of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The RFP was made available beginning January 19, 2016. The RFP was opened on February 10, 2016. Two companies submitted proposals, Aramark and Chartwells. Process: The Evaluation of the proposals was completed in a two-step process as shown below: Review the 23 comparative evaluation criteria and rank each one: Highly Advantageous, Advantageous, Not Advantageous, and Unacceptable. Review the cost of the proposals Before the cost of the proposals was reviewed the committee was required to rank the two companies on the comparative evaluation criteria. For the first step a Food Service Evaluation Criteria Committee was formed composed of one Principal from each level, representing the elementary schools, middle schools and the High School. The Human Resources Director and the School Business Administrator were also on the committee. The committee ranked both companies Highly Advantageous. Chartwells provided a very good presentation. Their proposal was very well organized and focused on Lowell’s diversity and cultures in presenting menu options. One of the quality criteria that Aramark excelled in was regarding the qualifications and experience of the food service director. The advantage goes to Aramark in this regard. Because with Aramark, we are retaining an excellent food service director that has built relationships with the school and community, improved the participation of the program and has a good reputation. The recommendation of the Food Service Committee was to retain Aramark because there was not a significant difference between the quality criteria of the two companies.
